EIP Tuning 3.0 forged pistons

Im boring my VR out to a 3.0..

Found a good deal on EIP pistons in the states..

Anyone running these?

Another option was JE pistons, but not really seen these about on the net..

Got a matey boring my block for a crate of beer.. Says he can fit the pistons too, so sorted!

Was gonna get a mocal oil cooler, but can't quite stretch to that, hence why im after the low cut switch and neuspeed thermo.. So cooling shud be ok..

you can overbore the 2.9 and the 2.8 engines, but can only take the 2.8 to 3.0, the 2.9 can be taken to 3.1 as this was what i had done to the engine i used to have in mine! this is what i am led to believe anyway, somebody else will no doubt have a contradictory answer as i only post what i am informed on by other "reputable" companies

mark i'll keep an eye on your progress as this is something that i want to do to, just now i am looking at a company doing the work but with a big bore head and everything else its going to cost me £2500, anything cheaper i am very interested in hearing about

je pistons are the best to use really mark, eip ones are better for high boosted forced induction motor due to their higher heat tolerances! £2500 for a 3.0 rebuild is good, mine cost over £4500 with all the goodies on board, head,cams,tb,map,manifold,injectors etc. tuning the vr for big power is not cheap, but looking at it again i would have spent the money on a charger at the very least or a little more and turbo'd it, given the power hikes available compared to capacity increases! i was going for reliability, and what happened to that plan? most of you know!

at the best stage, mine was running 276bhp and 256lbs/ft of torque, ran a 13.99 fully stripped at santa pod, and then dropped a valve shortly before xmas 2003! faulty work or components is now the wrangle i have with builder/supplier of components, frustrating to say the least!

I've got some brand new ARP rod bolts - unopened - never used - interested?

Also, some ARP head studs - still on the car unfortunately - still deciding if to take them off or not....

My car should still be as reliable right?

JC, Let me know a price on the set as it could work out cheaper than coming from the U.S...

How comes you are thnking about taking the other off from the car?

With the ARP bolts you have, the piston wouldn't require machining would it?

The package I was going for from the states, the guy was going to mahcine the conrods a bit to give the ARP bolts a better hold, something liek that!

i might have my old set of 3.0 forged pistons up for grabs soon as grant has used slightly larger pistons in my new engine.

im sure the 2.8 and 2.9 blocks are the same just different bore sizes. when i blew my 2.9 engine grant built me a 3.0 using a aaa block.

I've sold me SC and and putting it back to stock.

The ARP's are a direct replacement for the stock bolts so I shouldnt think you'd need to machine anything, if you were using stock components that is....

I am a tad worried about boring my 2.9 block, as I've managed to put a piston thought a STANDARD 2.9, So running a bored out 2.9 is a bit of a worry as to how much it'll be able to take.. Especially if I drive it like a stole it!

most of the 2.9's were thrashed, the corrada was intented as more of a "sporty" model of the golf VR6, which i beleive was more of an executive model :) it's a known fact that the bore wears more on a 2.9, hence that most corrdo's start smokin their bag off and it's all downhill from 100,000 onwards, good luck!

dubloke, who was it that did the work ??? Hiten I wouldn't be in any hurry with Grant motorsport as he is down on staff, supposed to have 5 there and there's only himself and another half competent guy there. He's also broken some ribs racing so therefore working really slow. He's promised my 3.0 engine about 6 times now and still now delivered it yet.

No probs...

Just been assured with the rebore which isn't really that much, and the forged pistons, balanced conrods, whatever else I'm having done, I shud have a healthy block... Just have to get the head done to match now then wack the charger on!

As Hiten said the 2.8 and 2.9 blocks are the same, just the 2.9 has a larger bore

anyone know how the eip turbo pistons work, it says on the site that they are "drop in". so does that mean they give a low CR without boring? or are they the same CR just tempered better for heat?

also can u run a 3.0l without a flowed head? cos i always seen this as being a waste of money with FI, cos your just gonna boost it to hell anyway. im not bothered if it drops power without the worked head, just the reliability of it.

Gazbrook that's grant for you. this is my second engine that grant is doing. the first one lasted 700 miles before i knocked out the sump on the m4 causing my engine to run dry.

im in no rush i've recently add a lsd and final drive to his work.

what have you had done from grant?
