Ok, after noticing my car marking it's territory i had a look underneath today and saw drip comming from behind the oil cooler.

My question is this... Do i just get a new cooler and seal or is there a way of replacing the lot with a regular style oil cooler set-up like the one on my mk1? Are there any pro's/cons?

make sure it is the oil cooler mate because the oil pressure switches are prone for going down and pissing oil out of them and they are right next to oil cooler on oil filter housing also the oil coolers are quite cheap anyway and id just go with the standard 1 mate cos they do the job just fine.
