HI..this actually concerns my girlfriends cl but im sure its the same........firstly the drivers doorhandle seems to have failed, as i now cant open the drivers door with the key, to get in we have to open it with the passenger door....any ideas why this might be....

And secondly....to have a look at the mech i tried to take the door panel off, but i couldnt remove the window winder handle (i have electric on the vr, and comes off well easy..), so was just wondering how this comes off.

Any help much appreciated

Stoo

rIght mate on the back of keylock is a little alloy rod/paddle which snaps and stops you unlocking door easily obtainable from vw for not a lot of money just a few quid the window winder if you look at back looks like it has a plastic washer at back of handle this washer piece which is approx 5cm wide will slide halfway out of position and then the winder will slide off but you dont need to remove that to fix the doorlock in the door opening area right at the end of door handle is a screw torque drive on most mk3s undo this and slide handle towards front of car and wiggle abit (can be fiddly) and door handle will come off then replace the bar you have purchased from vw and put back together but beware its a right fiddly job to get handle back in again and you have to be careful not to snap new bar putting it back together.Carl.

The VW window winders are mint, Realy easy once you know how, Much better than the C clips fitted to other makes of cars that can be realy hard and fiddly to remove.

Love working on VWs, Removing seats, adjusting handbrake, Balljoints, Drive shafts gearbox end, Removing the front end are a few other good designs from VW making them easyer to work on.
