Smuggler 0
The car idles like crap, sometimes cutting out, and it just seems to misfire when driving, sometimes its ok, other times its not. Theres a strong smell of fuel outside, and i've replaced coil pack, leads, plugs, and have put another ar mass sensor on. VAG-COM shows fault code:0553 - Mass airflow sensor - Short or open circuit intermittent (31-10)This keeps reappearing a few seconds after clearing the code.Any ideas?I'm desperate to get this working, the car will just end up being scrapped if not fixed as it's cost me too much money lately, and i dont really want to do that. vr6g 0
i would recommended changing the cam position sensor (hall sensor). mine had the same symptoms and fault code, changed the cam sensor......problem solved!!! hope this helps! Gareth

vr6g 0
But i dont have a fault code for it? But it does have a maf code?Thats the code that came up on my vag com. can't remember exactly but about £30-£40 will get you a new sensor if i'm not mistaken. GAreth
Smuggler 0
Ok thanks mate, I originally had the sensor in mind, but because the vag com never came up with it, i left it. Why would it cause other faults to show up then?

Smuggler 0
I've already put a new maf on it, and i've just tried a working camshaft sensor. Any other ideas?
kilokilla 0
I take it you have started car and had a good look at the fuel pipes aswell to make sure its not leaking anywhere as a drop in fuel pressure could cause your problems.
kilokilla 0
also take the little air hose off of the fuel pressure regulator and make sure there is no fuel coming thru it as they sometimes go down and check all the wiring is ok to the maf sensor plug as these can sometimes break aswell.Carl. UnitedMotorsport 55
what value is in the fuel trim log? wiring fault would be my guess
Smuggler 0
Seems to be working a bit better now, not as lumpy, just needed a drive for some reason which is a bit odd. Anyway, it's still a bit hesitant at times but not as bad, shouldn't be too much of a problem, although I was wondering if my throttle body needs realigning as vag-com shows the throttle percentage as 82.5% when the pedal is fully depressed, which is not right, correct? The car is obd2 and I had the battery disconnected, it sometimes idles at 600rpm but smooth. Does it sound like it needs a reset? Thanks for the help guys.
ingham 5
maybe problems in loom?
rigs 0
We had similar symptoms when the throttle position sensor went.Runs like crap and seems to misfire etc...? If it's the TPS then if you put your foot flat on the throttle it'll clear as it at full throttle I believe it ignores the TPS anyway Try unplugging the TPS - this makes it default to 100% throttle on the sensor and makes the car run reasonably normally. We ran without a throttle position sensor for some time and the car was fine Worth a try. daleyboyVR6 6
I take it you didnt reset the ECU after you reconnected the battery ? the obvious question is did it start showing symptoms after you reconnected the battery?...................
