Need some fitting advice?

Seen a set of cream Audi A3 Leather Interior for A3 8P model in mint condition.

Just wondering what interiors fit into the MK3's??

I know front seats can be alters with the sub frames but dont know about the back benchs??

iv seen afew mk3's with mk4 interors mate so i think they can be made fit buit i dont no how have a look on edition 38 i think there is a guide in the mk3 section

as far as i know , the only interiors that fit straight in are from either a vento or seat ibiza, can't remember which model? All the rest will need mk3 runners welding on them.

What about the rear bench - i can sort out the front seats fine - the rear is what is important

the fornt go in easiy enough you just need to cut the rear runners down and weld in ght mk4 front mount as for the rear bench i think you have to weld in the lower mounting out of a mk4 as its the same as the mk3,

or you could try taking the leather off the rear bench taking it to a trimmers and gettin them to fit it?

Ive fitted a MK4 seats into a Mk3 and into a polo.

Front are a total mission but worth it in the end.

As said above you have to weld the sliders from the mk3 seats

Please make sure when you do this that the seatbelt mounting (a little cam shape) still runs inside the seat slider as this is where it need to be mounted, If you feel the slider it has loads of ridges on it. In a crash the little cam locks into the chassie on the slider.

You need to mod the seatbelt mounting to get it to sit proply inside the slider other wise it wont slide. I have seen people just chop the cam off which leaves the seatbelt just attacted to the seat with a bolt and not in the slider which is sooooo unsafe. Do not do this!!!!!!!!!!! in a crash the bolt will just snap as its not a proper sucure mounting point like into the chassie.

Rear bench was ok tho. The bit you sit on goes strate in but the bit your back goes on needs abit of fabuction for the lock mec to keep it from coming forward

Any way you can't just put them in and off you go. Good days work. Didnt know you could buy subframes to do this. i would have got some and save alot of work????

Sub frames are the only way to go in my opinion. When I bought my Recaro Speeds some dick at a (apparently) VW Specialist said he'd weld them to the floor!!

I thought jesus thats going to be safe in an accident!!

I paid a visit to MJ at MJ Interiors (expensive but one of the best in the country) and he said there are far too many people riding around with dodgy welded seats in cars and I just ended up buying some certified Recaro sub frames that are safety rated. It wouldn't take much to be dead with welded seat frames in an accident (or badly crippled)!!

If your serious about your build, safety should be top of your list.

Found an old pic of my interior. You can kinda see the sub frames. I considered having a play with the plastic base parts from my old seats and attaching them, as I've never been keen having the frames exposed, but i've never got around to it. You get the jist though.

As long as your a good welder and you use correct bracing you be fine!!!!! The work I did was as stong if not stonger than the orinal seats.

The sliders are welded on in the first place by VW (at the rear)!!!!!!!!!!!! and are only atached buy 3mm mild steel with about 1cm of weld on two sides

Mine are on think box section welded all round, 4 sides, (about 7cm of weld) And the main slider down the middel is seem welded 13" each side defo stonger than in the first place.

You can't get sub frames for mk4 seats. this is the only way to do it, Your right you can get subframes for aftermaket seats as there different, You can bold subframes onto them then the sub frames go into the runners but VWs have the sliders built into the seat!!

The seat belt in a crash is what stops you hurting your self!!!!!! and they are not atacted to the seat atall!!!! they are atacked to the proper mounting points in the chassie. The one that is on the seat is only atached to make it slide with the seat and it locks into the slider in a crash!!! The seat takes no load!!! If you have a look you will see what i mean.

More lighty thing thats going to happen is a pagenger in the back without a seatbelt will snap the mec on a a 3 door (that lets it fold foward) or brake the seat where you and adjust how far it leans back leaving the base still atached to the car.

As for welding a seat in solid. Not very good for ajusting but welding is very stong. Stronger than bolts (depending on how big the bolt is)

Why do you think people weld in rollcages instead of bolting them!!

Also alot of cars have bolted seats.

Its the seat belt that stop you dieing !!!!

No I bought them as they are. The bolsters also look slightly different to Type R ones.

They are Recaros fella, bought direct with subframes. To be fair Tom, I didn't really want a load of welding and bits and pieces strapped to the bottom of my seats. The sub frames were not cheap, again direct Recaro items; around £400 from what I can remember.

I'm no welder fella and I'm sure someone who knows what they are doing can do a good job. But the frames were an easy, safe solution.

Your right and if subframes can be used then use them. But with mk4 seats theres no other way!

Also as you say there are alot of crap dangours welded seats out there. Im currenty having to sort somones seats out that they did a realy bad job on! Totaly unsafe.

Im sure you would be happy with my work tho. Its fully painted and looks factory. Nothink added to the car itself and you can't see any of the work!

I wouldn't want to put somones life in danger lol
