Guest Olly_K
well, i dont think the s4 will handle as well as the vr. not sure if the engine note will be the same, but its just a bit more suited to my needs the the trusty ol' vr !
DundeeDub 0
if i get a big wedge of money soon i want one of these; http://www.audi.co.uk/newcars/model.jsp?section=/models/a6avant/rs6avanti think an rs6 would keep me happy with all the bits mine would come to £66,000 and group 20 insurance !!!!!would have to be a huge amout of cash for that[ Edited Sat Sep 04 2004, 12:45PM ]
mina 0
Hi OllyHave had a drive in a 2.7 Bi-Turbo S4? I did last week and to be honest I didn't find it that quick - esp compared to a Shricked N/A VR6 (never mind my old Golf). It's a heavy car and the power delivery is quite lazy. It's probably more fun with stage 1 or 2 remap - but as you know modding cars is a slippery slope!Hope you find a car soon!CheersMina
Guest Olly_K
mina, not had a drive in one yet, im not going to waste anyones time untill i have sold my car and got a bigger loan. Yep the S4's are 2.7 V6 bi-turbo. I can understand them being a bit sluggish as standard (about 280bhp) but like you say, an AmD remap take power to about 320-330bhp and 350lbs torque. That should make it a bit more lively !The only mods will of course be the engine remap, new alloys and a milltek dual pipe system(and possibly the K04 turbo upgrade pushing power to 400bhp and beyond)
mightyvr6 0
Not trying to put you off but every Audi I've ever driven has been so bland. They just don't seem to drive with any precision and the steering feels dead. I hope that performance Audis don't drive like that as I think you would be disappointed. They may be quick but are otherwise absolutely characterless. That's what makes the vr6 good; it has an engine full of character and drives with precision.Have you considered any other makes, maybe a Merc C43, BMW M3 or something by Porsche? FishWick 21
nah' date=' i think if you get something like an S4 you won't look back.[/quote']Until you feel the complete lack of steering feel.Been round Castle Coombe in an ABT fettled S4 and it was just like being in a 160 mph arm chair. Dull....... but nice 8o)

VR6Steve 0
If you look hard enough you MIGHT be lucky enough to find an S3 or even an RS4? Might have a bit of leg on them though?
Guest Olly_K
s3's aren't fast enough. rs4's still command 25k no ?
VR6Steve 0
I have heard someone say there are some around 15k.
acf8181 0
S3's are similar performance to vr6's as standard.if you're looking at spending £15k, you gotta check out NSX's...they be mental!
Guest Olly_K
i dont think an NSX will be as practical as an s4 !I like em though. If i was single and living at home i'd probably have one ![ Edited Mon Sep 06 2004, 10:20AM ]
antera309 3
Sorry to hear you're letting go of the VR6, Olly, but the S4 is a good choice as a replacement. The only comparable alternatives are the Jap-rockets.I've been looking at the "bug eyed" Scoobys and these are real bargains for £10-£12k. Suburu's styling mistake has worked to our advantage here. A £300 headlamp kit sorts out the front-end looks nicely anyway.Very, very tempted...[ Edited Mon Sep 06 2004, 10:21AM ]
Ferrari VR6 0
Now here's an alternative within the price bracket, although not quite as quick as a Scooby (unmodded) the Integrale Evo like the VR has bucket loadsa character and a sweeeeet lump up front! I know it may never start and will probably fall to pieces being made by Italians but it's a cool car and goes like a rocket, i seriously was considering buying one before i bought my Golf [ Edited Mon Sep 06 2004, 12:40PM ]
