xyber 1
some of the earlier games on ps2 used a type different programming, which they scrapped as it was quickly supeceeded, but they kept it on the ps2 for the use of the early gamesThe ps3 doesnt have itcompatibility check http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc/bcGames.htmIf you havnt yet had it linked to the net its worth doing for all the missed updates aswell
craggsy 91
60gb UK version had software emulation built in to it to play ps2 games. They took it out of 40 gb version to save costs, along with a couple of USB ports and card reader.US and Jap consoles had a chip in them to play ps2 games but they took it out for UK release

Jk* 0
Why would anyone want to play PS2 games if you have a PS3 anyway?! :S
VR6Pete 1,455
Given the PS2 was one of the most popular consoles ever produced, I'm sure people have many games still if they had previously owned a PS2. I was around Carls the other night and we were playing on GT4 on his PS3

Earwig 89
While it's not possible right now it m,ay be possible sometime soon ;-)There is a new chip beind developed for the PS3 which will allow people to. . . err. . . shall we say. . . "Play" with the PS3 in a way they were not meant to ;-)Just as Sony said Blu-Ray was not hackable and could not be copied but the discs are now easily downloadable, the same will apply to the machine. Some details. . . . .PS3 SUPPORT:* The first work to be done is to allow our users to flash directly the PS3 BIOS by USB. So no more problem with firmwares, you can install everything you want, when you want. All the complications due to firmware versions that cannot be downgraded will not bother you anymore. This solution will be released in the next 4 weeks!* Another new feature that we want to add is a REAL TIME patching of the firmware part that you want to be emulated from the chip. Being the 512Kb flash not enough to store a real dual firmware, we'll have to wait for the first hacked firmware to understand if a "realtime" patching will be possible. In case we won't be able to find more ideas, a new version of Infectus with a memory expantion bay will be releasedMark
