Coddy 0
Okay, so it would not have been my first choice but it seemed like a bit of fun. Looking at prices for manual VR's I cant believe that nobody wants a to give me 3K for a 96 Highline. I cannot describe the grin factor when you kick it down in sports mode and it goes through the box bouncing off the rev counter at 6500 rpm. And it still gives 30 to the gallon on a run. Pittuf 0
I think as soon as people hear the word auto they are put off. I've only heard favourable things about em.
mk3anni 0
I had an auto once, i broke the box, cost me nearly 3k. never again
cliveyp 0
i don't feel safe driving them. I prefer to have both feet doing what they were taught to do.
acf8181 0
manuals are faster...especially in decelaration. i use heel and toe, and engine braking for every downshift. is awfully hard to do in an auto (not impossible though). i'm also a control freak and like to be in control. mk3anni 0
i don't feel safe driving them. I prefer to have both feet doing what they were taught to do.There's that aswell> I've yet to find an auto I trust to go like i need it to when i ask it to. Sometimes when you boot an auto accorss a roundabout or over a junction it just doesn;t do what you need it to.
andy 0
Its several things I think, worse fuel economy, expensive if it goes wrong but first and foremost its the lack of interaction you get from driving an automatic....period......not just auto vr6s......does sound like a steal though! Eat this 2
lol i can just about heel and toe but not at speed (my feeet dont turn that way i use my big toe for brake and outside toes to blip) a had an auto granada and yeh it was gay but the kick down was great
dubloke 4
drove my dads xjs 5.3 v12 with an auto box against a 4x4 cossie when i was 20 and had such a huge grin on my face when i totally whipped its arse as the power delivery/kickdown was awesome. but then you'd expect that from such a refined engine. i have to say, on the auto side of things, they are usually confined to old men in slippers with pipes, although i have been in a few more modern cars with not to shabby performance from an auto box! never beat manual for pure driving feel though, EVER! Ferrari VR6 0
The only decent auto that i've driven was a BMW 328i. I drove it from London to Yorkshire and back on a weekend so i had a good run in it shall we say... Anyhow the car was sweet, another piece of quality German engineering The car was smooooth, very smooth, and nice and quick as well but for me i was always thinking...I wonder what it would be like in manual? I think it would have been simply...more funSo for me in my opinion i wouldn't buy an VR6 auto purely because the auto box is not a sports box. Both manual and auto boxes have good and bad points for example auto's are great for cruising, traffic jams an so on but for that instant punch and grin !amazed i think it's hard to beat runnning through a 5 speed box listening to the VW V6 grumble away. No disrespect to auto owners, i'm sure you love your VR's and rightly so, you simply have a different driving experience, one that's a little calmer and slightly smoother, perhaps
acf8181 0
i've driven a lot of vauxhall autos..funniest was a v6 omega. i kept locking the rear wheels when downshifting (i couldn't handle letting it change gear for me, so would start in 1 then knock it into 2 at about 5k rpms, and so on. downshifted to early a couple of times!)
