madmonkee 0
just a few quickies, when exactly is the valve fully open, or fully closed? What direct effects does a dodgy valve have?? Will the valve cause the car car to run rich/lean? Will it directly effect the performance of the engine overall??
28v6r 0
WOW!! Deano questions, questions, questions.....Have you been meddling again?? 1/ The valve is SHUT on cold start and progressively opens as the engine heats up. Kinda like a manual choke, it closes the butterfly when cold riching the mixture , then as you notice the temp start to climb you progressively put the choke in so that the Butterfly remains open and the mixture returns to a leaner mix for normal running.2/Dodgy valve - poor idling, hunting, difficult to start when cold. Can be overcome though by using the throttle. No permanent damage occurs, more an annoyance that the car doesn't run properly and the idle is alll over the place when hot. Not recommended on an Autobox ..For obvious reasons.3/ Nope!!Now leave the Bloody thing alone!! stop meddling %-6 when the car is running perfect!!!
madmonkee 0
it wasnt running perfect..... didnt like sounding like a pleb everytime i stopped. Vrooom vroooom vrooom.... wtf!!! So i sorted it now, but it has the tendancy to drop real low now, but it does pick back up. Has stalled once since i done it, but i think it was resorting itself out
madmonkee 0
nope, just had the whole jobber off, it was just slightly dirty inside. Replaced it and it was hunting lke a div untill i turned it off, and restarted. Wonder y it does that?
28v6r 0
Errrr... zeems like ist "Kaput!!!" Ya??? Yeah, I think you've had it there matey, doesn't sound good, see if you can purchase one off GSF first, secondly buy a VW Drivel (Sawwwy.. Driver) and scour the breakers, thirdly contact Draco2000 (Pete, is this right, I can never remember??) on Ebay along with Volkswarren, Volksbits and see if any have picked up any on their surplus stock travels.. all are bound to be cheaper than the stealer, incidentally phone them and ask for a price also, as they're "supposed" to operate a 4plus scheme where there is discount for older cars.. Try That and see how you get on...P.S I was only pulling yer leg about meddling... we all do it te..he, see acf he the best at it! 8o)
28v6r 0
Oooops ... another thought there Dean, It reprogrammes itself to the ECU once cleaned, it's like fitting a new valve, it has to recalibrate(??) itself to the signal from the ECU, give it a day or so, if it still does it then I'm affraid the valve ist Kaput! 28v6r 0
Here's a question fur ye...From cold, on a Cold start do the revs go up over the 1k mark then settle back to the 500rpms??
madmonkee 0
when it warms yes, if it real cold it floats about 800-900rpm
28v6r 0
Hmmm... I'd go for a dodgy ISV on this one, it sounds as though it's on the way out and has a weak signal. Try cleaning it once more, working the "Door" with a screwdriver until spotless then lubricate with a little 3 in 1 oil on the door and spindle, remember , the idle may go all over the place initially before resetting... I'm not sure if MAF has an adjuster screw or not , this would allow you to adjust the idle a little and bring it up a touch to nearer 750rpm when warm, when cold it should go to 1200 - 1500rpm and settle quite quickly to a near perfect idle...Try that and see how you fair...
