xyber 1
Do you definatly want to stay N/A? 268 Cams and a Schrick manifold which is a good start, with all the extra bits that need doing at the same time, with labour and a re-map will come to about the same as a charger and re-map
johnODB2vr 1
so you looking at around 4k then? as u say thats chrger teritory and not much off turbo! how do the three differ in the vr?

VR6Pete 1,455
I was planning on sticking n/a a while ago, which is why i got the 268's cams to go with my schrick.... but decided go down the forced induction route now, hence the bottom end rebuild, low comp pistons, but had to sell the cams, as they dont work very great with vortech chargers. so plan your mods and 100% to a route, otherwise you will be selling stuff if they are incompatible etc,,Cheers,Pete
johnODB2vr 1
YEH SEEMS TO BE THE CASE, WHAT TO GO FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE IS TRICKY TO DECIDE THO
xyber 1
Forced ind give you that initial huge jump in power and best increase for your cash, it makes the VR engine even smoother and at about 3800rpm it turns into a headcase, so for pootling around town its still civilised and reasonably economical (in VR terms hahaha) and realtivly easy to expand as funds allowI had 268s and was about to order a schrick untill i realised about the cost of a charger, sold the cams straight away and ordered my kitmy charger kit, engine mounts, oil cooler kit and re-map was just short of £3000 I considered a turbo but it was more work and as I use mine daily wasnt really the best option for me
johnODB2vr 1
JUST SHORT OF 3K? WHER FROM? I THOUGHT ITS WAS AROUND 3.5 - 4K?
xyber 1
charger and mounts from NS Racing (price dependent on $ ex rates i think)oil cooler from The Phirmre-map at StealthFit it all yourself
johnODB2vr 1
for what power is that?wouldant i need a uprated clutch, injectors and intercooler?abd wgat do you think about aftermarket ECU?, or is the standerd one ok?
xyber 1
Mine (stage 1 kit) is 260 bhp with no other engine mods and the standard ecu is fine with a re-map
johnODB2vr 1
and also ive seen thes turbo kits in the staes on ebay, for like 400+ dollers, are they any good ?what would the shiping fee cost?
xyber 1
dont bother, for that price they will be lame and the manifold wont fit anyway, if you hunt around you can find what you need and buy all the components separtatly to get exactly what you want, but obviously there would be the need for internal work on the engine and you would have to expect the odd reliability issue on a daily driver
craggsy 91
Strictly Dubs now do a complete turbo kit
xyber 1
I had heard something about that, last time I looked on the site there was nowt about it, wouldnt mind a look at thatThink if i was to start over again Id go the Rotrex route though
johnODB2vr 1
just what i thouhgt. Supercharging seems my best option, what knid of power do i nera when neding to replace the clutch?, and what about a better diff?
Eat this 2
mine makes 275 lb ft and the stock clutch has been fine for 10k miles (the clutch has done 20k) including a fair few 1/4 mile runs
xyber 1
Ive heard the stock clutch is good for around 350bhp as a guide, I think if I got to the stage of a clutch swap due to the increased power id do the diff at the same time
Phat VR6 3
As far as the diff goes i imagine its how you want to drive it. I smoke my tyres round corners and take offs in my N/A VR so i wouldn't mind a LSD even on N/A... Im sure it would improve my take offs and cornersBut theres no reason why you couldn't run standard diff on 280bhp. You would just wheel spin all the time unless you use the throttle less
