badboygolfvr6 0
hi. was wondering whether anyone uses mobile fully synthetic engine oil for their vr6? is the mobile fully synthetic oil better for the vr6 engine than the engine oil that VW Dealers use when they service? xyber 1
fully syn is far to thin for a VR6, VW synta silver is best
Bobtrude 0
I have also heard that fully synthetic is too thin, why is that?
xyber 1
Just as VRs are hot engines. when the engine gets hot and the oil is up to temp it just gets really thin and the engine drinks it like fuel, doesnt last long at all and in that state wont lube up the engine very wellfully syn also has alot of detergents in it so it would clean gunk away from inside your engine that was sealing a leak, I have heard of people suddenly changing to fully syn on higher milers and the engine started to leak like a sieve and there is no way to stop it without a rebuild
badboygolfvr6 0
so do vw use VW synta silver when they service a vr6

philbatesvr6 0
i use 10/40's fully synth diesel oil lol, i get it from work for free and its diesel oil so it keeps the internals clean so no carbon build up it jus goes black as fook when i come to change it but i have been running my vr6 on it for a year no with oil changes every 2-3k and my engine is oil tight no leaks at all and im on 115k

rigs 0
Previous used Silkolene Pro S fully synth 5w-40 in the track day vr... top stuff. Going to 10w-50 now though as she was getting a bit hot The 'fully synth oils are thinner than semis' thing is a myth. God knows where it came from. A 40 grade oil at 80 degrees is by definition the same as any other 40 grade oil viscosity wise.
407BHP VR 2
Is 5w30 to thin on a brand new engine ?
vr6newcomer 1
you cant get silver synta any more, its called fuchs oil, thats what gfs stock now. last change i also put in some lucas friction treatment, not sure about next time tho just due to the extra oil i top up every 1000 or so miles
