1998VR6yellow 0 Posted February 17, 2008 Report Share Posted February 17, 2008 i have a 1998 VW GOLF gti VR6 5 speed manualok today my friend need help with his car because his tire blew on the highway. when i was on the high way i turned on the hazad lights ON for 20 min to help my buddy change the tire. when i came back the car stared to smell funny like something burned. after that i tried to turn off the hazard light but i could not do it. The light keept staying on. second now i can not give a blinker when ever i turn. and my hazard lights dont work either. please help me. HOW CAN I CHANGE THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH. CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME STEP BY STEP PROCCESS. SECOND WHERE CAN I BUY THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH FOR A 1998 VW GOLF GTI VR6.. THANK YOU WITH YOUR HELP. MY CAR IS A 1998 VW GOLF GTI VR6 BODY MK3 ALSO WHEN I WAS PLAYING WITH THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH IT WAS MAKING A BUZZING NOISE. Link to post Share on other sites
Bobtrude 0 Posted February 17, 2008 Report Share Posted February 17, 2008 Try the blinker relay. The ralays are above the fuses. One of them is for the blinkers. Go to vw and ask them wich one you should pull out and change. If not I can tell you wich one in the morning. Link to post Share on other sites

They want me to take off the stearing wheel and change the hazard light switch. Does anyone know how to do this project. step by step would be helpfull. Link to post Share on other sites
Bobtrude 0 Posted February 19, 2008 Report Share Posted February 19, 2008 The hazard switch is mounted on to a big plastic thing that sourounds the base of the steeringwheel. Its held there by two screws that screws in from underneath. (You will need a half long phillipshead screwdriver) Unsrew these two and carefulle pry the two parts (the one under and over the base og the wheel) appart. Shouldnt be very hard to do. StuartVR6 0 Posted February 19, 2008 Report Share Posted February 19, 2008 Hi, Just incase its the fuse or relay, fuse is number 17 and the blinker is relay 6 this is on second row of relay's above the fuses on the far right. Should have 21 printed on it. Link to post Share on other sites
