MarkGolf 6
Anyone done this??Im worried about pulling it down and it not going back correctly...
six appeal 53
Done it on a Mk2 before Mark and it was a nightmare to get it all back in right. So I should imagine on a Mk3 its even worse! Need lots of pairs of hands helps too, so think you'll be buying the beers after!
MarkGolf 6
Its got to be done though..What holds it up? Clips?
VRmonster 1
i remember doing my seat, to put some custom guages in there, but by the time id removed it it had split in about 6 places, so be very careful, it will be quite easy to snap. like hardboard. MarkGolf 6
So, I just gently pull it down??It clipped in I guess?
acf8181 0
your biggest worry should be damaging it as you remove it, but with care and gentleness (not forcing it) it should be fine.i once removed the rooflining from a nova, and replaced it perfectly (was changing the sunroof)
MarkGolf 6
I've heard nightmares about removing them, but if its on clips, im not too worried, was just worried about sagging and stuff..I'm recovering it, so not too scared about creases and cracking... Just got to figure out how to remove my dodgy sunroof sunround.. (some dodgy glass aftermarket shitter thing)
VRmonster 1
you could just pull it out then once its out make the shape again on the floor and make a fibreglass copy of it. he he, then get that sprayed up the same as your car. dunno how u would get it in there tho, lol. MarkGolf 6
lolool!!Was so easy!I already had my A/B/C pillars removed as they are being finished..I remved my handles and sunblinds and the headlining fell on me! So its not clipped up or anything.. Easy!
MarkGolf 6
Waste of time! lolMy alcantara is about 2/3cm too short!! How gay!Have to order more just for the cause now!
acf8181 0
how much would the alcantara cost to cover the headlining?i bet you could get it flocked for less, and it would probably be a better idea.
madmonkee 0
bet it rattles to fuck now??? Mine does LOL
MarkGolf 6
Alcantara looks the nuts though and its soo easy to work with...I had just short of 2 meters left from a 7 meter roll which cost me near nothing thanks to a friend, and some fabric glue(cement!!) Then just time doing itJust been out and not one rattle, can't say I noticed any rattles apart from the usual rear door card creaky noise, although its comin off again when I get the 2 meters of material I need. doh! acf8181 0
flocking gives a very similar finish as alcantara, but costs less...thats if you have to pay for the alcantara and a pro to do the trimming though.
