DundeeDub 0
I am going to be replacing my inlet manifold.I need a tool to remove the star headed bolt that hold on the black plastic. Any idea where i can get one cos there seems to be alot of points in it, more that a usual star head or can a 6 star bit remove these??Also has anyone removed the lower manifold before??If so how hard it it to change over the fuel rail, injectors etc. Anything i should watch out for?? MarkGolf 6
Torx screw isn't it?Go down ya local D.I.Y place...A star shaped thing
binliner 0
theres nothing special about the tools needed, just a normal torx drive set should have the right size... Ive got a halfords professional set and that has them in it[ Edited Fri Sep 10 2004, 05:03PM ]
DundeeDub 0
i looked at them today but it only has the 6 spike one does this work ok??anyone removed the lower manifold??
rikkirw 0
If my memory serves me right you need an M8 multi-spline bit
mark taylor 0
if you are careful you can undo them with a normal allen key-thats how i did mine !amazed
binliner 0
whatever you use tap it in place first before you start to undo it because those bolts are easily rounded off
acf8181 0
If my memory serves me right you need an M8 multi-spline bit not sure its an M8 (i will double check tomorrow), but you're right...its called a spline.go to halfords, or any local tool shop (use yell.com to locate) and buy a set, it'll come in handy.if you try using a torx or an allen key theres a good chance they'll round, as unless they've been undone recently they'll be very tight.also a good idea to get a flexi extension bar, or ball end allen keys for the front allen key bolts (where the main part of the inlet joins the lower inlet) as they are very easy to round. DundeeDub 0
i thought it was called a spline but had a look in halfords and couldn't find anything at all about splinesi can get a torx easy enough but want the real thing as one of the is slightly corroded and look like it could be a bit of a cunt to get out.anyone got any experience on the injectors??what tools etc??cheers acf for the flexi bar idea i can see how that would be useful now thinking on it
acf8181 0
yeah, i don't think halfords do splines come to think of it, i got mine from a great little tool shop we have near here. the size you need is an M8 by the way, but you may well have to buy a set. demon tweeks sell sets by the way, in their motorsport catalogue.the pro's use ball end allen keys for the front bolts. DundeeDub 0
cheers acf will look into getting a set of splinesgot enough allen keys at home to supply a shop so i'm sure i can find some ball ended ones.any idea about the injectors?? if noy looks like i'm just going to have go for it and see what i need when i uncover it
acf8181 0
i've never removed injectors...i know the plugs swival around so you can undo the wiring connectors. rest i'm unsure.
binliner 0
I might be getting my wires crossed but you dont need to remove the lower manifold to change the fuel rail... Get the inlet manifold off and the fuel rail is held in by 3 10mm bolts... all I know about the injectors is that each one has a metal clip you need to remove and then they just pull out. theyre quite a tight fit so not sure how easy it will be getting them back in
andy 0
yes, you just remove the square metal clip, give the injectors a twist then a pull. I replaced all the rubber o-rings on mine as the injectors are a very tight fit and the o-rings to take some serious grief, not sure if you're supposed to use a lubricant (ooer) but i used a tiny ammount of washing up liquid on the o-rings to get the injectors back in, believe me its awkward pushing 6 injectors in (12 o-rings) and tightening the fuel rail. DundeeDub 0
i might just leave the lower manifold until i get my engine rebuilt then, looks like it might be a little over my head just now as i have to use the car every day
