My vr has been off the road for the last 2 months over the winter, as the weather is good i taxed it and went to use it today, started and ran fine so when to put some petrol in and took a drive up the motorway to blow the cobwebs away, get a few miles up the road and the car starts miss firing really badly!

Limped to my parents house and took the plugs out and they seemed fine (they where new about 6 months ago and have only done about 3000 miles.) Put back in still miss firing, so we put a timing strobe on each lead just to see if they where sparking evenly, and it looks like the 2 leads on the top left of the engine and middle as you look at it aren't firing at the same sort of rate as the rest . I know its not the most acurate way of testing!!

Is there a way of testing the coilpack and leads?

The car feels similar to when i had a coilpack go on my last car 20vt so think it may well be that but would like to know if there is ways of testing the rest of the system?

Thanks

Luke

mine mis-fired when 1 of the leads was knackered, although i dont know why yours would do this if it had been unused for 2 months, i guess the easiest way is get another set of leads on the bay ,or borrow a friends and test each one in turn, if youre near st albans get in touch as i have a some leads we can test yours with.

Thanks for the offer mate but no where near you unfortunately!

Took the coil pack apart today and its quite rusty around the coils and one side sticks out about 1/2mm where as the otherside is flush and looks likeits been taken aprt before as the plastic tabs have been broken. I think its still the original one as its stamped up '97 which is the same year as the car.

This one comes back straight away after clearing the codes everytime, does anyone know what it means, i assume its an idle control valve or similar?

Is there a list anywhere or which parts the codes relate to?

Thanks
