H13VYY 0
hi. everytime i go for a drive and i rev it near the 4-6k revs range a couple of times..then when i get back and i parkup and turn the engine off my car lets of this burning smell. It only happens when i race it a little.i serviced it recently..has the fact that it had been sorn off the road for a year maybe the cause? but i have driven it for about a month since its been sorn off. also when i rev the engine to 1.5k while parked up and keep it stable at 1.5k revs ther is a very very light rattle sound. But then fades away as the revs get higher. im not sure whether its the normal engine sound or whetha the chains are on their way out.
Phat VR6 3
Yer that sounds like your chains mate.. You sure you havent got any oil on your exhaust mainfold from where you toped the oil upCould also be your brakes?
H13VYY 0
damn chains. But its very very light noise at the moment. How long do i have before i need to change them?
Phat VR6 3
I have no idea. aparenty the noise is them wearing againt the rivits. If you leave it they will quiten down again after you've worn though the rivits and then you will be wearing against the metal of the base of the guide.. Its very rare for them to let go so just depends how long you wanna risk it for
H13VYY 0
I got the chains checked and they are ok for the moment. But i have still got the same problem with the smell. Its not only if i boot it.. Even if iv been driving for an hour or 2 then when i park up their is this burning smell. It doesn't overheat. It drives fine though. Any ideas? vr6ixy 0
had it on mine a couple of weeks ago, burning smell then the fan belt snapped due to the tensioner bearing and pulley shooting itself to bits and it was just after i had over taken a load of cars oops, £52 tensioner and £15 fan belt from gsf, from vw £70 tensioner and £45 fanbelt took about half hr to fit but grease the bearing up with high temp grease b4 fitting.Didnt give any warning just snapped, so have a good look. xyber 1
does it smell of burning rubber or plastic, or is it that nice smell you get from welding?
s3 Rich 0
Hello, I get a kind of oily burning smell from mine at the mo but not always, think it could be the oil breather pipe clogging up again, it was clogged when I got mine last year & made a similar smell. Is yours an oily or coolant kind of pong?I used carb-cleaner on my breather pipes & inlet manifold etc last time & the smell went, so will be doing the same this weekend, also felt smoother & less lumpy from idle upto 2500rpm.Good luck in finding the problem.Richard
H13VYY 0
i was driving along today and the 'plastic' burning smell occurred again. So i parked up and tried following the smell. I looked under the car..i saw a plastic bag stuck on the cat. Im assuming i just leave it untill it goes hard and falls off?
