serpentine belt snaped!!!

Recommended Posts

My wife's just got back from shopping saying the car keeps cutting out...smoke everywhere!

iv got the old belt off but need to know why it snaped...........what i want to ask is does the

water pump turn by hand with out the belt on?

Iv done some searching and read that someone elses snaped because the water pump ceased

I hope mine snaped due to old age!

Sounds like thats the problem to me bud.. It should spin quite freely.. Once turned on there should be more resistence but shoud def turn by hand...

Oh and the fact that there was loads of smoke was probaly the old belt getting worn though

yeah just sat here thinking about it, she said the car kept cuting out and that the power stearing was still working, so im guessing that it snaped whilst reversing on to the drive and that the air con pump is where it burnt throu.

Aleast you no that the water pump was working on the way home.. It could have over heated otherwise.

surly the belts in a right state?

It was! but it only happend about 200 yards from my house

got myself a second hand pump on its way ;) and iv been busy taking the front end off the golf and the only thing left is to disconect 2 air con pipes, is it just a case of undoing them or is there a safe prosiger(sp?) for doing this?

lol.. if its degassed it should be safe to take off.. Ive never had one off on a VR so its up to you to find out. Can't you just unbolt the fitting or it could be a push in and pull out to lock type fitting like on air breaks (trucks)

If so push the pipe in and theres a little coller that you got to push in (I use 10mm spanner on the trucks) then the pipe will just pulls out? Can be realy award tho

Good luck
