VR6osis 0 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Share Posted April 2, 2008 I have a VR6 Golf Auto, , Could anyone please advise on the cheapest and corret oil, as VW charges £60.00+ for 5.3 litres of ATF Detrox, I have seen much cheaper brands in motor accessorie shops, but their book only recommends the manual and not auto oil.Cheers (a) Link to post Share on other sites
bigjak 0 Posted April 3, 2008 Report Share Posted April 3, 2008 I have been trying to find the same info myself but all I can find is other people asking the same question (UK MK5 website) and the advice that I have found is get a specialist to do it as when you drain the oil and change the filter, some old oil might still be left but a specialist has the equipment to 'pump' the new oil in. LSK_ZA_VR6 0 Posted May 8, 2008 Report Share Posted May 8, 2008 since iv'e been having hassles with my 5speed (09B type, fitted on V6 since 2001) box i spent some time with the local VW workshop Sup who knows a bit about the Sharan. The ATF recommendation is DEXRON III or equivalent as minimum spec. VW ATF surely is expensive ...apparently there is a red fluid (that's how i know ATF to look like) and then VW uses a yellow oil in some boxes - filled for life ?? (apparently the 09B uses the yellow fluid - mine was red :-o)the filter on the 09B type box can only be replaced by removing and splitting the box !!i have VW documentation on the process of checking for oil level and filling, etc. on the 09B type. please PM as it's PDF. or should i post?
