MOT Problems with my VR S/C.....Need some help if possible. !!!!!

HI,

Just had my VR with Z Engineering MOT'ed and it's failed.....

It's failed on Lower arms and brake pipes which is not that bad but it's also failed on emissions as the Cat has been removed. !!!!!!

They also noticed the ABS light does not work. I've just checked it and found out that the bulb has been cut as the light is on constantly !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone that a spare Cat for a P reg VR ??? who's near Licester that i could buy or borrow to get mine through the MOT. ???

If they tested it for emissions as a VR6 then you could argue that they shouldnt have done as VW never made a supercharged VR6 engine so technically it should be tested as and 'unspecified' engine, which I here is an option when setting up

If they tested it as 'unspecified engine' the emissions test is alot more leaneant and would more than likely sail through, even without the cat

Im sure if im wrong someone will say so, but im positive Ive seen this loop hole somewhere since the New Year

The 'unspecified engine' is done on engine code, As the AAA engine code is fitted to a MK3 Golf as standard(as listed on the VOSA system) then it must be tested as a cat test. If however the engine code was ABV, AMY or AES for axample, and in a MK3 Golf, then this would not be subject to a cat test.

d'oh! so if it failed emissions with a cat fitted could it be tested as unspecified or as it is stamped with the engine code, does it have to be tested accordingly, no matter what additions are made?

Correct, AAA engine code in a MK3 Golf= CAT test no matter what.

A car that was designed to pass a CAT test, should pass a CAt test, this is why it failed.

Then the car fails the emmisions test and the car has failed the MOT.

Thanks guys, I'll check the engine code. The guys was helpfull and I reckon if I sort the ABS light and fit a temp cat he'll pass it.
