VR6 VDF 0 Posted June 7, 2008 Report Share Posted June 7, 2008 Just managed to get my VR6 a new reconditioned gearbox last week and having not drivien it since, I decided to take it out to london for a day out!Had some fun done about a 100 mile round trip and just as im in the road bout to pull into the drive at 2am, I hear a slight snapping noise and the left side of the car drops Jump out the car to investigate and the passengers side has dropped and sitting on the wheel!! one wheel is pointing one way and the other wheel another way....DAMN...! :@Rang up mr AA who came at 5am and said a combination of my ball joint has broken/ my driveshaft has broken/my cv joint has broken and God knows what else....! anyway managed to get it on the back to the flat bed and get it sent to local garage.They open in 2 hours so Ill see what they have to say, how much am I looking to spend on the job guys?? Im guessing £200??and I have work at 9am..... ... :@ so annoyed!!! Link to post Share on other sites

VR6 VDF 0 Posted June 7, 2008 Author Report Share Posted June 7, 2008 Yea glad it didnt turn out any worse!but any got any approximate costs for repairs?The garage is gonna have a look at it on wednesday earliest, which is ages away!So far ball joint and driveshaft snapped, im assuming CV joints must also have gone as they were knocking before on full lock?? mattp1983 0 Posted June 7, 2008 Report Share Posted June 7, 2008 Driveshafts are about £100 ish I think, Ball joints about a tenner and the CVs £40 a pop, so in bits no more than £200.Labour shouldnt be too bad, its an easy enough job, hub nut off, undo ball joint from hub and wishbone, 4 nuts in total and then undo the splined bolts off the inner CV, remove, cut clips off boots, knock CVs off, knock new ones on then refit, jobs a good un, prolly not much more than 1-2 hours with a ramp and good tools, doing it yourself add another hour or so to that on the drive.
