Had my VR6 since April and just luv it with only mechanicals being changing water pump/belt tensioner which forum guides were great.

However with all this wet weather get missfire on startup which takes ages to disappear and notice a lot of arking on HT leads both at distributor cap and plug ends which WD40 only eliminates for a short while. Is this a common problem and what are best replacements?

Also understand a special tool is recommended to remove plug leads - where do you get these from?

Ebay and Ebay. I've tried expensive HT leads on mine and a set that I bought from Ebay for £27.99 (still available today). Didn't notice any difference in performance or fuel economy. I've stuck with the £27.99 one as they are easier to fit into the cable guides and had better quality plug caps. FYI, HT leads are amoung the most common VR6 failures. The HT circuit seems to account for a good percentage of disscussiuons on most forums.

There's a sealy tool for about £20 or a cheaper version for smart cars. The smart car one works perfectly and was under £10. Again, search Ebay.

p.s Here is a list of possble missifire causes (in order of likelyhood) that I put together after fixing my own and my mate's VRs. It is also based on a good afternoon's searching of other forums. Since missfire/juddering issues are so common could we post this as a sticky? Also, maybe someone will disagree with the list so dive in with any suggestions. Personally, I think it looks about right and (fotunately) starts off with the cheaper items that can go wrong.

1. Plugs (also lets you check how engine is running in general: lean/rich)

2. HT Leads. Not as expensive as you think. I got a set off ebay for £27.99 and they work well and look great.

3. Coil Pack/dizzy (again, lots of scope for cheaper used parts on ebay etc here)

4. MAF

5. Fuel pump/filter/pressure regulator (easy to test with a simple fuel pressure gauge. Again, £15 Ebay)

6. Lambda sensor
