missfire from my vr!!

hey, ,just quick question ppl if anyone can help me, my raddo vr has a miss fire or even a flat spot when its under load (usually happens after some heavy footing) but say for eg i go down bye pass, engine is warm slow down at round about, pull away in 3rd or even fifth if im not having to slow rite down, go to pull away again say in 5th gear about 1000-1200 rpm it sometimes quit fearcely has a missfire almost like kangarooin yer car, i changed plugs last month got set of leads too, so dont really no what else it could be???? i have bmc filter and miltek exhaust, dont think any of them would cause this?? its just getting really annoying now! oh and my sunroof OPENS!! when i lock my car any ideas about that ppl?? thanks brian

As you have re-newed the plugs and leads, it is very probably the coilpack - your symptoms sound exactly like mine. Hesitating and missing in the 1000 to 2000 range especially when under load and in a high gear (as you do in a VR if you are cruising, not thrashing). Does it make it a pig to drive unless you rev it to 3,000 and above? That is what mine was like. On tickover, does it have an occaisional hesitation - you have to listen carefully, like a little 'putt'? Take off the coilpack and inspect it for cracks, mine had a small crack (but under a plastic cover that is attached to it). If so, it's knackered. A new VW OEM one cost me £142. Member MI5 VW had a 2nd hand one that I was going to buy - he may still have it.
