my 97 vr6 has developed a very bad misfire. started a few weeks ago and you could barely notice it but this week its become really bad. when it first started it was happening between 1000-2500rpm now its right throught the rev range and is quite bad. now iv changed the plugs and leads only a matter of a couple of months ago. but when looking down at the plugs there is a bit of arcing going on in one cylinder ( if you look straight on at the front of the car its bottom left). now i know that would normally indicate the leads but would 1 cylinder missing cause it to judder that bad?? also iv just been out to it to have another look at the coilpack to see if i could see anything but nothing, although the inlet manifold was quite hot even the it has'nt been driven for at least 3hrs, any ideas what thats all about????

cheers in advance

Agreed, 1 cylinder missing badly will definitely cause a nasty juddering. That's probably all it is. If you can see arcing then the lead must be very bad.

OR!!!!!

If the lead is not properly seated on the plug then it will often cause arcing inside the spark well. Basically, a couple of months after installation the contact between the lead and plug will become a bit corroded due to bad contact between plug and lead. The effect is that arcing will occur through the lead to the cylinder block instead. Try removing the lead (or all the leads) with the correct tool and then put them back in place carefully ensuring you get the positive 'click' that tells you they are correctly installed. This might be all it is.

sadly i dont have access to vag com. iv got a new set of leads coming tomorrow under warranty from my work so hopefully that cures the problem. any ideas as to why the inlet manifold would still be really hot 3-4 hours after the car was last running?
