Hi all,ive had a few problems with my early VR recently of which i thought id sorted them all out!

My problem now is...my engine feels like its surging power whilst sat at a constant speed and has twice today almost cut out kangaroo stylee!felt as if id run out of fuel but i have a nearly full tank!

Its all clear on vagcom, any ideas what could be causing this please?

My Dizzy is sounding noisy and im thinking it maybe on its way out as the rotor is catching the cap slightly...could this be my problem do you think?

Any suggestions welcome.:)

Andy

A dodgy MAF would show up on VAG-COM wouldn't it?

Get the rotor arm changed if its buggered. Have you ran the tank dry? Could be the fuel filter is blocked.

I think the MAF does show up on Vagcom yes, but as i say vagcom shows nothing.:(

Ive just changed the rotor and Dizzy cap for VAG ones but i think the bearings are on the way out in the dizzy itself!

Fuel filter is new and i havnt ran the tank dry either.

Does the pulsing power thing sound like it could be a fuel pump or Fuel pump relay issue?

I think what Xyber is saying is that, yes, the MAF has an entry on the VAG-COM software but that, even when failing, it often won't show an error.

In fact, the MAF only has two fault codes that I have been able to find, open or short circuit. This means that it has to be totally broken before it will show a fault code. Since yours is only a partial/intermittent failure, it is very unlikely to show up a code.

Either way, it sounds like you need a new dizzy, but if that does not help, the MAF might be the next place to look. I have a spare MAF from a 1995 VR6 that might be compatible with yours (though my engine is a coilpack car, it is still an obd1). Yours for £30 plus postage if it's useful to you.

Cheers,

Thanks for the reply.:)

I see what your saying.Ive got a spare MAF somewhere in the garage so will dig it out and give it a whirl and see if that helps.

I'll post the outcome!

Has anybody bought and fitted a Vag Dizzy recently?

How much as a rough guide was it?

Is there anything i need to take note of before removing the dizzy thats currently on the engine as i cant seem to find any info in the Bentley manual!?
