BMC CDA Fitting

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Ive read the guide on fitting the BMC CDA kit (thanks for that) and just wondered what people bolted the bracket to. Do you just put it on one of the 3 bolts that are on the 'thingy' to the right of the airbox... Sorry about the techy language there ;)

Surely the whole idea of this kit is the cold air intake pipe? To stop you drawing in the warm air from the rengine bay?

Admittedly I'm not a fan of the kit as I think its too restrictive, so you may as well use the normal airbox with a performance panel filter, and the ones I have seen fitted get hot anyway due to there positioning, so the can gets hot, heating the air going through it! If you look at the RR day results, the top performing ones have Ram Airs, if I remember correctly?

(This has nothing to do with the fact that my car was used to develop Ram Air VR kit, honest! ;) )

ok,

Got the bracket made and fitted - then the damn thing doesnt fit!!! ~:( If you look at the fitting instructions in the Guides section, the filter there has a bright blue fitting onthis side. Mine is black and exactly the same as the other piece in the kit.... Any ideas as im really annoyed!! ~:(

That is the idea but its a nightmare finding space for the pipe on a VR... it can be done but not in a way that you'll really benefit from the air being pushed into the filter.

I think you're right, ram air cars did get better results but I reckon thats down to the larger size of the ram air, rather than the bmc getting hotter (it gets hot on the outside but I thought the carbon was supposed to shield the heat from the filter inside?) and they sit in the same position anyway!

Yeh I was only teasing Justin, I reckon the Ram Air works better on the rollers as the bonnets are up, and so the cool air gets forced in to it from the fan! On the road it may well be a different story!

Again your right the carbon is supposed to protect the filter, but it can only do so much, and in doing this restricts flow!

Think you hit the nail on the head when you said about the position of all filters and them both getting hot, its crap basically! Right next to a great big heating element (engine!) I recon on the road the BMC WITH cold air pipe is probably better, and looks damn sexy compared with a Ram Air, but is that enough to justify the extra 80 odd quid? When perforamnce gaines are so minimal, LOL!

the bright blue thing is a piece of silicone hose that is used to join the filter to the maf with the help of a couple of hose clips... did you not get one?

i never got one either, ended up cutting up an old wetsuit arm and used that to connect them together
