plus and minus of a straight through exhaust ?

Recommended Posts

ok before we start, I LIKE LOUD ;) i have a hole in my centre 'suitcase' so want to replace the whole system but want to know what my idea will do to my car ? ok i have bought a remus back box and am thinking of getting someone to make me a pipe up straight from the cat to the backbox. (i had this done on a 325i bmw sounded nice) i am also hoping to get the cat removed but made replaceable for mot time. will doing this cause any running problems or loss of power/torque ? your thoughts are welcome :) and yes i know it will be loud :D thanks in advance

Send a PM to Pittuf as he's had a straight through centre section made for his. I think you'll find at you may gain a few BHP but lose some Torque due to the loss of back pressure.

when you say straight through do you mean with the centre section taken out, if you do then mine has that, i have a full scorpion exhaust and it was quiet with it on so powerflow took it off. In my opinion(not everybodies) it sounds amazing an v v loud, i do feel like its lost a tiny bit of acceleration but possibly gained more midrange and top end. Its all made up for by the sound, the only time it annoys me is when i'm cruising in one gear and the constant drone gives me a headache.Easily solved by dropping it down a gear and giving it some every now and again

I have only a backbox, it is straight through from cat back. sounds great, with loads of popping. Id imagine without the cat it would be louder, sound awesome, and there would be a decent increase in power (5-10bhp), possibly a reduction in torque? not sure about this.

hey so many replies :D thanks alot guys, i just wanted to check really. when i did this to the bmw it didnt make much difference to the performance but it seemed to use more petrol, but hey everything comes at a price like lowered cars and speed humps :? incidentally the bacbox i brought was a remus stainless of ebay, brand new delivered for £160 i think its like vdubgirls.
