snash 0 Posted February 4, 2004 Report Share Posted February 4, 2004 I bought an R reg Golf two-ish weeks ago as a pressie to myself for getting older(?!) Fun, fun, fun. My kids won't go in the missus' motor any more - then again it is an Astra, so who blames them!!! My eldest will start driving lessons later this year and is already asking if he can go on the insurance - like f@8k will he..... Right down to the questions.1) I want to make sure that all is right, soooo, being to mechanics what Graham Norton is to chasing girlies, where is the best place to take the beastie for a thorough going over/tweaking?? Oh, I live in the Bexleyheath, Kent area.2) Any weaknesses or pitfalls to look out for that can be taken care of before any major catastrophe takes place??That's it for now.Oh, and thanks to Binliner for his handling tips.Paul (aka Snash) Link to post Share on other sites

Looking at your area I would suggest binliner would know where to go. If more than 10k ago, get it serviced at a specialist VW place (Binliner will probably help/know where to go) don't go to main agent as they will rip you off. tell them exactly what you want do, ie. leads plugs as well as usual oil + filter change and they should do it.2. If you have a specialist tyre place near you like I have, you may be able to get a free shock and brake test done. I've just had one at Micheldever tyres and as expected brakes were spot on but shocks were shot. If your's is around the 100k mark, its probably the same.3. Go to specialist or come to rolling road day at Stealth and get it linked up to Vag.com to check for any problems.4. Once happy you can start modifying if you want, ie. shocks/lower it, but check you've got a decent car to begin with using the above.Also, check the tyres and ensure the right tyres on rims if standard.hope this helps Link to post Share on other sites

The tyres are correct for the rims. The BBS alloys do need blasting and re-coating, so Binliner, where do I go?Mileage is 49,000. The last service was done by the fleet company, so probably best that a full gynacologist job is done.There is a Ripspeed place near me. Are they worth speaking to?? Link to post Share on other sites
