Id say stick with OE spec unless heavily tuned, mines charged and I still use synta silver which is OE spec and good stuff, castrol make it for them

Ive got a mate who has a VW specialist garage and he said stay wilth synta, he won VW Group master technician of the year 3 years running before he went out on his own so he knows his stuff

stay well away from fully sythetic on high milers as the detergents in it could clean away 'good' gunk that may be blocking leaks, causing it to leak like a sieve and be very expensive to fix

Its strange as some will, others get quite funny

One way around it is if you have a mate in any type of vehicle related job, get him to call and say its X from wherever they work, order the parts and say you will send someone over to collect the parts and pay in cash and as with most things in the trade, cash gets you discount aswell ;)
