mpgscott 0 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Share Posted October 18, 2008 Well had a problem with my oil temp always creeping up and discovered today that the issue was the water pump, mine had no fins on it so bugger all water circulating. New pump installed!Anyway last week i managed to break the crack pipe and so got another and installed it today, put everything back together and now i have a leak at the thermostat end. I have taken the thermostat housing off and checked all the seals all looks fine, Also pulled the crack pipe off and made sure there were no leaks where this goes into the thermostat housing all looks fine. Seal for the face of the thermostat against the block is ok and the other seals all fine. I have had it off about 4 times and just cant suss where the leak is. Anyone got any ideas??The thermostat housing was replaced just a couple of weeks back and all new seals, prior to installing the new crack pipe there were no leaks, could it be that the crack pipe is not fitted right into the block end anyone have any tips on how to get this into the block properly, at the moment it is not leaking at this end (block) but the car cooling system has not been to pressure yet the leak is just with me pouring in water to the header tank. Looking down to the crack pipe into the block i can still see the rubber of the o ring. Should this be right in?? I have taken it out and it needed a new o ring which i fitted, do i need to try and sand the entry for the pipe to the block??I am thinking that maybe the crack pipe is not seated correctly into the water pump end and this is somehow not connecting correctly into the thermostat housing could this be the case and i just need to try and push this crack pipe into the block? I tried to use a block of wood and a hammer but still no success?? It is doing my head in this leak as it was not here before i replaced the pipe.Cheers Link to post Share on other sites

Just curious as mine's leaking coolant and water i tink at the pump or pipe where it enters the block... Could we have the same problem ???Let me know if u sort it ? mpgscott 0 Posted October 18, 2008 Author Report Share Posted October 18, 2008 Hi Rusty,The pump i am talking about is the water pump which is driven by the belt it was totally knacked they are supposed to leak when they fail but did not. Not one fin was left on the pump all broken.The pipe i am talking about is the crack pipe which runs between the thermostat housing and the engine block beside the water pump. mpgscott 0 Posted October 19, 2008 Author Report Share Posted October 19, 2008 This is a pic of my buggered old water pump.I would advise anyone who has there oil temp running high to have a check of the water pump. Mine had done 114K miles and going by the water temp gauge it all looked ok only tell tale sign was that the oil temp kept on climbing upto as far as 114 degrees thats as far as i let it go. Simply let the oil temp climb then free wheel and see if the temp comes down thats what mine was like. Link to post Share on other sites

(assume it will fit straight on to the VR6 OBD1 i have ?? ) and what is the part number for the Aux water pump ??? i will replace both and think i may as well got for some nice silicone hoses at same time ...
