jcorallo 0
33mpg @ constant 80mph on the motoway for me - measured by both the MFA and the amount of fuel I actually put in the tank on the trip (i.e. my MFA was accurate). This is a with a 2.9 SC as well... Comes down to 28mpg in short 15 to 20min trips.Down to about 22mpg when using it for the short trip to work each morning.Jules
patrick green 0
Damn! Since reading this thread I've been checking my mpg - 18 or so around town & 22 at best on the motorway at 80-90! that sucks! ~
amit 0
actually i didnt labour the engine this time. I kept the revs around 3000ish rpm. Nothing too low and nothing too high. I managed to get 20.6 mpg from a tenner, which works out about 60 miles.
Bman 0
don;t forget if optimax loses octane points just from age. because its and additive to raise the octane where as bp ultimate is refined and therefore doesn;t lose octane points. frequent oil changes makes diff on consumption. GREGORY 0
Just read somthing in evo mag they tested all the super unleaded like shell,bp etc TESCO came on top due to them doing a 99 oct super for the same price or cheaper as optimax
duncs 0
i remember seeing a review of BP ultimate, normal grade unleaded, and shell optimax on telly (top gear or something, it was on sky a few weeks ago) and the results were that for performance engines shell optimax gave you more bhp than the BP petrol.i haven't used either in bugs, just normal unleaded, and am getting around 28-29 mpg on my 500-mile a week commute which is mixed motorway and heavy urban driving. bugs is an automatic, too. worst figures i've had on a run have been about 22-23 mpg.when i was regularly driving my porsche 928 i used shell optimax, there was a noticeable improvement in how the engine ran at the top end compared to normal unleaded. i never noticed any difference when i trialled BP ultimate.duncs
squirreleater 0
I've got an auto, does a steady 25-30 mpg, but i drive quite carefully to try to keep the mpg at a bearable level, only playing with the throttle when it seems ' right' i.e... showing someone up The MFA says i'm showing about 27 on average, but i've noticed it takes an eternity to get warm and running ' properly' as far as mpg goes. Short trips will murder the mpg, and living in a rural area( like me) will help it no end.stu.
purple highline monster 0
i have been using that 99 ron stuff from tescos! it seems to be much better economy, the car feels more responsive and smooth aswell, i normally put optimax in if i can be bothered to go to the shell near me, other than that its cheap old shite unleaded which dosnt seem to make mine good mpg or run aswell on it? Bman 0
But isn't tesco's petrol supplied by esso?
TVR6 0
I have 'trialed' Optimax, Ultimate & Tesco 99 and have found the Ultimate to work better with mine in terms of economy and all round running. Optimax was ok but my VR seemed to drink it and the Tesco juice was even worse.
