Slim 0
This subject has probably been done to death, but this'll save me the bother of searching all morning What's the best, or a highly recommended, induction kit for the VR6? Ideally, I don't want to lose any power or torque whatsoever. The BMC Carbon one is top of my list at the moment, but wanted to see if there were any better options from those in the knows before splashing out 170 notes. Would I also be right in thinking that I can't use the cold air feed if my car has air con?Any tips/advice is much appreciated
mark@vagworx 0
A lot of peeps rate the BMC, i haven't personally used it. You can use the cold air feed with a car running A/C, but you'll have to do away with the Carbon Cannister. It's a kind of emissions filter (fuel vapour) which was added to the car's for the overseas market. Removing it does not affect the cars running at all and it's dead simple. VR6Pete 1,455
Ive got the BMC CDA on mine... I've got air con also. The cold air feed isnt really required as ive positioned my filter to point into the cavity of my inner wing. strong figures on all my RR figures. I cant recommend these enough.Regards,Peter
six appeal 53
I've got a Ram Air on mine (my car was used to develop it) I can't rate it highly enough, but then I've never had a BMC so can't compare? The only thing I can say is that on the last RR day the best performing non supercharged cars were all running Ram Air filters. Make of that what you will?To be honest though I think they all make little difference and all have very similar charicteristics, you can make a lot more difference by getting a good launch and gear change than the odd BHP here and there! binliner 0
Im happy with my BMC but havent had any other make on my car. As simon says (!) dont expect too much from an induction kit other than an addictive noise and in that respect Ram Air are as good if not better than BMC
Slim 0
I notice that Awesome-GTi have the Ramair one for £67.50, which is a full £100 cheaper than the BMC, I think I might just go for the Ramair one, we get discount if we're members of the VR6OC too don't we? Can put the £100 towards a new exhaust or a set of coilovers. Cheers for your help.
Slim 0
Correction, it's the Supa Ram one that is £67.50, the Pro Ram one is £84. I assume the Pro Ram is better than the Supa Ram.
dubloke 4
pro ram is a lot bigger and reccomended by some top vr tuners to be one of the best filters for the vr engine due to the surface area of the filter! i have one on mine and combined with a scorpion zorst gave 200.8bhp at stealth before my schrick and unichip were fitted! VR6Pete 1,455
I had a BMC + Powerflow and managed to pull 201BHP..... it would be good to take time at the RR and compare filters!
Guest Olly_K
When i was up at stealth getting my VSR and cams fitted, we RR'd with both a ramair and a BMA filter. No Difference.I would of thought the ramair would sound better, and the BMA to give more power as its shielded (think about all that hot air going into the ramair). But they gave the same figures and they sounded pretty much the same. (IMHO anyways)so that only leaves price ![ Edited Mon Oct 18 2004, 07:29PM ]

Slim 0
Ordered the RamAir Pro Ram one from Awesome this morning for £84 + vat + delivery so it came in at £108. Talk about stealth pricing......
SankysVR6 1
why didn't you wait for Pete to find out about the discount.
dubloke 4
even with discount thats still around £50 cheaper than the bmc and with them both giving similar results its seems a bargain i'm sure! slim- you wont be disappointed with the ramair, but dont expect your fuel bill to decrease as you'll wanna full bore it everywhere to start with! Slim 0
There wasn't any pics on the site, but I'd assume it would be bigger than the Supa Ram one which is £20 cheaper not including Awesometax.
Geastb 0
The pic on the site looks like the one i've got - what sort of difference in power betwen to two - anyone know?
Slim 0
Got the ProRam fitted to my car last night, the filter's bigger than my head, so much so that it sits against the side of the engine. Mounting it was a bit of a hassle as my Clifford alarm box thing is attached to the strut block bit so it's not 100% flush, and the screws for attaching the bracket to the MAF seem a bit crappy, but it seems nice and secure.Oh, almost forgot to mention, it sounds fucking awesome
