markd 0
Having problems with the general brake warning light on after i drive off on my vr6.Really starting to annoy me so i tried a new b/f level cap, no joy.Tested the handbrake switch, seems ok.Was wondering if anyone had heard of this, possible wiring fault somewhere??Any help would be very appreciatedMark
Matt W 4
Do you have brake pads with wear sensors (was an option but rare)? It could be the pads that have worn down and need replacing, also what about the brake fluid level is it correct?
Rikki 2
I had this on mine. It can mean abs fault. Get it on vag com!!!!!!
Charged VR 0
If the ABS and Handbrake warning lights are on then you have lost Both speed signals from the same axle and the EBD isnt working. Does the ABS Light come on when you turn the ignition on?
Matt W 4
Maybe you should be more clear about which light is coming on?The one that says ABS or the one that is for the handbrake and brakes in general?Because each light means different things, not heard of both coming on though for the EBD? In fact i didn't think the VR6 had EBD.It has EDS which is like traction control but very primative.
Charged VR 0
Also has very basic version of EBD aswell, Ever found a Brake Compensation valve on the rear axle of a VR?
Matt W 4
EBD = Electronic brakeforce distributionThe Golf 3 platform is too primitive for this, also the valve you are referring to on the rear axle only came on earlier models up to 95 i think. Its more to do with the front rear brake balancing if i remember and not electronic brake force distribution which is what EBD is an abbreviation for
Charged VR 0
The valve come on earlier models until EBD was introduced. All it does is allow extra braking pressure to the rear axle when weight is applied to it. Otherwise if the car was laden then it would have very poor braking.EBD is an electronic version of the unreliable Brake bias valve.

The Monk 50
I have the same problem, but I've found it's dependant on the position of my handbrake when resting and driving.....yes I do take my handbrake off before pulling away
bear 0
after 7 years with the hand brake warning light on iv`e finally fixed it, had to put a new hand brake cable on for the mot, had my son helping in the car whlie i was working under the car, he took the hand brake off the car and noticed the wire`s were bare touching the cars bodywork, a bit of soldering and no red light, just had to make sure the wire`s go over and not under the handbrake to the switch.
