ip 0
Do the Golf Mk3 VR6s have traction control? My mate reckons his 'rado VR6 does have a very basic ABS based system that works up to 30mph (ABS feathers the brakes when system detects wheel spin). However, I'm pretty sure my golf does not. Certainly, it's happy to spin its wheels at any speed on wet roads. Vag-Com tells me all is well so I'm guessing the Golfs never had traction control?ip
Damo 85 0
I actually read somewhere that highlines came with the same basic kind of traction control using the abs, but mine is pants in the wet at any speed so i would say they didnt.. anyone else no if its posible?? ip 0
Ahhh, so highlines and Corrados might have it. Mine's a basic VR6 from 1995 so I'm guessing it may not. I don't really miss it. The power comes in so smoothly that I don't think it is required. Just curious if it was meant to be there but had died somewhere along the line.ip
Matt W 4
Yes it was an option on the Mk3 not sure about the Corrado and as you said it uses the ABS and only works at speeds below 30mph. When it kicks in you'll experience a sort of banging as the brakes kick in trying to slow down the spinning wheel. Think it was called EDS...
craggsy 91
Not just highlines tho
ip 0
I do get a banging when I wheel spin hard but I thought this was just good old fashioned axle tramp. I guess I need a nice icy day to test it properly. Shouldn't be long now.ip
Damo 85 0
If it is an option, is it something that could be activated through vagcom etc using the existing abs system? or is it more involved??
jims13 6
nah cfraig is right, only mulberry highlines had it , beacuase they are special
ingham 5
all vr6 have it but its crap, it only works up 30 mph so if you try you can go strait past 30 on the spot , also it is only done with abs, no real engine cut
ip 0
Wow, if mine is meant to have it then it really is crap. Driven properly the car doesn't spin, the power comes in smoothly enough to prevent that. Boot it and drop the clutch in first though and mine spins everywhere. I do get a juddering but I thought that was axle tramp. Maybe that is the traction control after all?ip
Phat VR6 3
yeah thats the feeling you get, Mine only does it if your pulling off grass/ mud, Guessing im to hard on the accelerator when on tarmac going past 30 as ingham said It really is poor effort for tc tho, Never once does it provide traction or help with pulling offJust makes you think theres somthink wrong with it lolYou can get proper traction control for £600 which works well
Rikki 2
Its not designed to give you traction when you nail it only at slow speed, like if its icy and your lose traction. Think only 95/96+ had it tho...different abs pump setup?
Damo 85 0
as above. ive actually only noticed mine has it recently with all the snow near my house. even in thick snow if you crawl up a hill in first you can here the brakes nipping at the wheels to keep you moving steadily. crude system but its proved handy these last few weeks!! Moochalargo 0
They forgot to put it on my vr im sure! Mine spins on grass at any revs! and mud!Back when they were new and a mate had a black 95 hiline he said it only works when you are turning! last time it snowed i was spinning all around the feild i drove it to!! did have allm, ost all the revs on though! and was happy that if there is a tc system that day it was useless!! lol

Damo 85 0
LOL unless my cars buggered haha. its a really noticeable grinding noise, comes on as soon as the wheels start slipping. only seems to do it when you literaly letting it just tick over in first gear to crawl along. and it certainly slows the car down so im guessing its working properly ..... gavinvr6 0
im guessing mine wont have it, its a basic 93 vr, and even at the slowest crawl just using the clutch no revs it'll spin on grass/mud and driving in snow can be forgotten all together as i found out monday, good job it broke down again then since i'd probably be writing this from the other side of the pearly gates by now with my lead right foot lolwould it not be recognisable from one of the codes on the white label in the boot? mines got about 20 different option codes on it but buggered if i know what they mean except lc5p (dusky mauve pearl) lol
