No-one's explained it in detail but from what I've worked out the theory is as follows:Basically, the engine coolant passes through the throttle body to stop it freezing up - the airflow makes it very cold inside. The theory is that this isn't really necessary and makes the throttle body warmer than it needs to be, which obviously warms up the incoming air and reduces power. The arguments against doing this are that the difference in temperature is so minimal that it makes very little difference to power, but you do risk you TB freezing up on cold days (when I guess the incoming air is gonna be cold anyway).As usual, some people say it gives good results with little risk, some say it gives no results with lots of risk. Personally, I'm going to wait until my car's on a rolling road, try it with and without the bypass to see what difference it makes. It's easy to do - you just unplug the coolant hoses from the TB and join them together. Link to post Share on other sites

warwickA2VR 0 Posted February 10, 2004 Report Share Posted February 10, 2004 don't forget the vr was sold in very cold places like canada (-50 centigrade eek!) the uk cars probably dont get icing up problems anyway; after all it hardly ever drops to 0 c so the coolant pipes are probably a redundant feature.
