russj249 2
to make it a bit simpler i'll use a 4 cylinder as an example.. but its the same kind of thing.. the crank sensor on it's own can only tell when cylinders 1 and 4 are at Top Dead Centre as they are linked at the crank. So it's telling you're ECU that it needs to fire either 1 or 4, then the same when 2 and 3 are at TDC,You're Cam sensor does the same job, but it tells the ECU whether it needs to fire on cylinder 1 or 4. and then whether it fires on 2 or 3 next.As you probably know cylinders 1 and 4 would be linked to balance the engine, but while one is coming onto firing stroke just after compression, the other is on exhaust just after firing stroke. So firing and injecting fuel wouldn't do anythingThe problems you might have would be starting problems as you ECU doesn't know which cylinder to fire on and inject fuel.. also you're engine management light might come in, some cars can enter a safety mode etc.If it is that it will come up with a fault code if you take it to be diagnosed, it'll also show if there's any other electrical things that aren't working properly. It's a bit brief but hope it helps. The Monk 50
The VR6 engine with coil packs use the wasted spark principle, so you usually get a spark on exhaust and induction.
russj249 2
oh didn't know that.. that rules the spark ignition side of the sensor out then.
