tjsmudger 2
I took my 96 Golf vr6 to my pals garage who confirmed the worst, the gasket had gone. Rang up awesome gti who quoted me £1600 for a re-build so i started to scour the internet for a replacement engine. I trawled for 2 days finding the usual suspects, £550+ with miles ranging from 110,000 upwards, i ideally didnt want to put anything in with over 110,000 miles but i thought i didnt have a choice. Anyway on saturday i went on a database for breakers and five mins later i received a phone call from a breakers yard, they had a vr6 engine out of highline which had only done 43000 miles and get what i snapped it. Its now sat in my pals garage, waiting to be transplanted into my car from today, oh, and it was only £400 with delivery. so i am a very happy chappie to say the least!!!!!! tjsmudger 2
thats what got quoted, apparently they have to add new equipment such as timing chains, to guarantee their work
The Monk 50
They buying their timing chains from gold platers?Chains and tensioners from vw for me was 102 exc V.A.T.If 1600 for a rebuild is the going price, I may just have to start up my own business lol.... I rebuilt mine again the other week from scratch after the plonkers doing my CH fu***d up my HB threads, all of which took me 2 days... so around 1k after parts per rebuild is good for 2 days.
