FishWick 21
That's actually the easiest way!Coverting a 4WD 02M to VR6 FWD is even more complicated and expensive!Don't forget also, the 02M is a physically bigger and heavier box too, which sometimes necessitates a redesigned turbo downpipe. sharky_70 0
poop again. i was actually considering it as a possible 'cheap' alternative to rebuilding with an lsd. the 6 speed would just be a bonus. ah well i'll wait for a good price on the wavetrak

Or can you use VR6 drive shafts? or fwd mk4 drive shafts with mk3 vr6 outer CV joints? Basically is there an OEM drive shaft that you can use with R32 inners and mk3 vr6 outers or is custom the only way?how much is the above adapter?

UnitedMotorsport 55
The adapter shown in the picture a few posts above is £100, this includes all the seals. There are so many variations of 02M drivshafts, different lengths, different diameters, different CV joints. We have cut/welded shafts on a few cars now and they seem to be holding up well. FishWick 21
What sort of torque can the standard O2M clutch hold? And does anyone know the gear ratios for the 02M with the transfer diff removed?Cheers
UnitedMotorsport 55
Kev, so far we have put the torque that broke our QUAIFE 02J through the 02M many times. The 02M hasnt moaned atall. The clutch on the other hand we replaced with a solid flywheel and uprated clutch, so cant comment on the stock clutch.Removing the transfer box doesnt alter the final drive. Stock 6 cylinder 02M ratios in a MK2/3.Corrado is far too short
MaidenVR6 26
Got mine up and running today. Tight like a tiger:) The shaft I used from a GTI Jubileum didnt fit, so I got one from a 02Q box.Dss axels where plugn play.C2 630 setup fired right up with perfect idle on my euro ECU.Problem!Foffa and Erik from Sweden have the same clutchnet setup as me. They both needed to take their gearbox OFF again because the clutchbearing was hitting the disc. The bearing was damaged. So Erik told me to grind off a little bit on my disk. So I did, but It was 1mm to little. So I can hear the bearing touch the disc! But with one finger on the clutch pedal to get the clearance in, the sound dissapear. I hope it will " get better by it self :-* " If it brakes, I know what the problem is.Clutchnet clutch is holding up 640whp on Mickey Thompson drag slick on Eriks twin GT3071R car. So it should be fine in mine:) Also holding up fine in Foffas car.

My 02A has survived 350lb-ft (with careful throttle application over bumps etc) for over 2 years now but is getting tired. The gear backlash is getting quite large now. I'm seriously tempted to go O2M and your brackets will help facilitate that quite nicely!Removing the transfer box doesnt alter the final drive. Stock 6 cylinder 02M ratios in a MK2/3.Corrado is far too shortI'm not sure I understand that. Are you saying the 02M needs a taller final drive to work properly in a MK2/MK3/Corrado? I did look at some 02M ratios on the VAG system a while ago and they vary hugely as you said. We worked out that on one 02M (think it was from an Audi A3) the top speed in 6th would be 125mph! Waaaay too short! I'm not sure how they get round that in the factory car? Big wheels and tyres maybe?
UnitedMotorsport 55
It is because of the bigger diameter wheels/tyres on the MK4 cars. they make up part of the final drive ratio.
john555 0
im confused how does the final drive become to short is it due to runnin smaller wheels than the standard 18s ?
MaidenVR6 26
Yes. My 17"s and my 02M is very short. third gear is almost as second on the 02A.
FishWick 21
im confused how does the final drive become to short is it due to runnin smaller wheels than the standard 18s ?Yep, 205/40/17s have a much smaller rolling circumference than 225/40/18s.1 revolution of the 17" tyre = 1817mm1 revolution of the 18" tyre = 1943mmSo the final drive doesn't change mechanically, but the resultant final gearing at the wheels unfortunately does.Personally, if I was going O2M, it would need an ATB diff anyway, so I would fit a taller crown wheel at the same time. john555 0
were do i find out the ratios on boxesis a v64motion box the same as a r32 box?i hope its not to bad to drive with as i was hopingto use my car as a daily when i got it back on the road
MaidenVR6 26
Get the V64Motion box called 02M DRP.That is the strongest one. I have a R32 box in my mk3, and its from 2002. The later R32 boxes have plastic cover on the side of the box. Where two bearings sits. It cracks, and shit hits the fan.Get the DRP box, and be done with it.I have all the C2Motorsports 02M brackets, and its all plug and play.
