i have wanted the AmD throttle body and remap for a while now, and was just wondering, when you say remap, is that on the standard ecu, or a piggyback chip, or a replacement chip? im after something that can be altered as i add mods. also would i have to get a complete new chip if i wanted to FI my vr?

Yes piggy back chip it if you get the cams and head done and still want further mods done. I presume you mean the Schrick route when you say cams + head? If you have this done, the ECU will need chipping any way for it all to work correctly. With the piggy back chip you can supercharge at a later date. However, you may lose a bit adding the charger to what you have already gained with head + cams. The man for all these mods is Mima. Also contact Vince at Stealth Racing who is currently doing the head/cam mods for us.

I've just bought a 94 VR thats pretty much standard except for some suspension tweaks. Looking to see if the £300 quid on an ECU from AMD is worthwhile? Will i notice the difference?

Also would you recommend sticking the car on a rolling road to see if its still performing? With it being a 10yr old car, owned by a middle aged lady and only done 40k miles, it should be close to original bhp?

Thanks for help in advance

As i said, the AMD chip with an exhaust, ram-air kit & sports cat got me 212bhp & 202lb-ft of torque. Thats 37bhp up on standard & 32lb-ft up as well. Transforms the car, the only thing i've noticed is the peak torque has moved up the rev range to about 4000rpm so when overtaking it's sometimes necessary to change down. but apart from this it's brilliant.

AMD also rolling road it before & after the mods so you know exactly how much you've gained.

Hope this helps.

its definately sorted me my next mod lol. already running a K&N, scorpion cat back. a throttle body and rechip from amd is next, £600 not a bad deal realy, and should see a nice torque gain. ill have to see what change i have after my spree at inters tho. lol.

I wanted the throttle body doing too, but it seems the later engine has an electronic throttle body so it can't be upgraded (mines a '96). So just check which engine's in yours before you book it in, it saves a lot of dissapointment. lol
