kie_dub 0
Right im in need of some new tyres for my tt comps, the ones that are on at the minute are 205/40/17, they look a little stretched but not enough. I like the look and stance of stretched tyres but want to know more.Does having stretched tyres decrease or affect the handling of the car? Is it safe? What size do you recon for the tt comps for a nice stretched look? Thanks guys and girls any advice is appriciated
mike 6
iv been told 195/40/17s go nicely on TT comps....would go any smaller than that or it would look sillymight be very slightly bumpier ride, shouldnt make too much diff tbh
kie_dub 0
So the tyres cant come off if you turn into the corners hard or anything like that?
Ben Seabrook 4
nope am running 195/40/16 on my compo's and have had no problems - as long as you keep the pressure up and look after them I dont see why you should
kie_dub 0
What pressure do you put in ben? front and back..
Phat VR6 3
Theres different amount of stretch, Mild like bens which wont be to bad, Then proper silly stretch which is defiantly nowhere near as safe as a proper sized trye.Handling will never be as good as the correct fitting tyre but the stance you can get with stretched tryes looks really good
Ben Seabrook 4
i run slightly higher than the recommended logbook pressure - cant remember what it is of the top of my head ( will check tomorrow) but seems to work well for me - the garage who fitted the tyres suggested it
kie_dub 0
Yeah ben cheers wouldnt mind knowing the pressure as im told getting this wrong effects your handling
Ben Seabrook 4
yeah mine does tend to tramline a bit if the tyres are low but no major worries to be honest and plenty of vw peeps run a lot more stretch than i do
kie_dub 0
Any chance of a pic ?
craggsy 91
I have 195/45 16s on one set of wheels....no probs at all with them and that includes ripping it round the ring. Also 195/40 16s on another set.......seem a bit twitchy at speed and when it rains. Dry and normal speeds then fine. But only use em to goto shows tho. Also have 195/50 15s on another set, but thats more or less standard size anyway
Ben Seabrook 4
Any chance of a pic ?yeah can take one tomorrow for ya

binliner 0
Ive got 195/40/17 on my TT comps, doesnt feel any different to 205s but they dont rub
kie_dub 0
what tyres are you using everyone, any recommendations? i know im going away from the thread tittle a little?binliner... Do you use a spacer to bring them out to the arch and if you do what size?
binliner 0
toyo PX4... Ive just got a 6mm spacer on the rear so the centre caps clear the wheel bearing covers. I think TT comps look better low and tucked but could prob do with a 15mm spacer at the rear to get them sitting just right
kie_dub 0
and nothing up front? (spacer)
craggsy 91
My tyres are dunlop sport 9000sp, pirelli pzero, yoko prada spec 2 and a set of toyo R888s in shed to go on
rob-gti 0
wen you get the tires always go up 1 size on the sidewall instead of 40s get 45 because they stretch better, and they are alot easier to maintain, i fitted a set of 175/45/16s on bbs rims on a mk3 vr6 the other day and they looked sweet although a pain in the ass to fit haha
