catalytic converter, Supercharged VR6 HELP

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have posted up before about this but without much luck and really need help as i want to get it sorted soon as pos.

I want to get a 3†exhaust system made from the manifold for my supercharged vr6. But I want a catalytic converter to be part of it for MOT purposes. Is anyone running a cat on a 3†system or can recommend one that can be incorporated specifically on a charged vr that will last. I had a quote for the exhaust system which was £550 (which sounds ok)and a sport cat that was £450 (which sounds expensive, but what do I know). So the plan with some helpful advice, is to buy a cat that I know will last and fit a 3" system and not cost £450 if that possible.

Please help!!!!

3 inch is a challenge over the back axle mate. you need made to measure to achieve it. 2.5 is a better fit but there are companies who will do it for you.

I used Longlife and have a 3 box with a Hgh Flow CAT. the system was from memory £340 and the cart was £200 ish (fitted). but got a deal on it.

Search for Longlife. The system was 2.5mm high gradel Stainless and all was Tig rather than Mig welded. It has a lifetime G and the guys were good at what they do.

Join up as a premium member and then you can see the llinks and pictures and get the discounts where available.

Most have an opinion on Powerflow.. I will keep mine to myself.

hope it helps

just emailed demon tweeks about a cat and been on longlifes web site be there's a Server Error in '/' Application on the get a quote page so I'll have to give them a ring tomorrow.

Hayward and Scott quoted £550 for a 3" system and £450 for a sports cat. So if i could just get a cat that would suite a 3" system a bit less than £450 than I'll prob go with them. I'm just worried I'll get a cat fitted and it won't last or sap loads of power!

( please tell me if I'm being a muppet)

There is a place in wigan where a friend of mine went to get one custom made. They can make it to how you want it to sound and it is cheaper than you are talking here, think it is around the 300ish mark for a full custom system mate. But this is in wigan so not really that convenient for ya

No you're not being daft! TBH mate have a chat with a couple of specialists on the made to order type systems.. You will soon spot the guys who know their stuff. You do lose power as you go through any box. so it should also be a highflow solution. Remember you do actually need some pressure in a system.

Things to ask. Basically because of the car set up and limits on the pipe diamiters the systems need to be rated for the heat they push. (very hot actually). So the systems need to be made to order.

Anyone who says they have them on the shelf is telling porkies. They may have an off the shelf solution but will ask more on your system and if you are looking to upgrade etc... Something to do with the size and material content in the boxes from memory.

Ask to see examples of thir work. They should be keen to offer them. you can see mine in the supercharging FAQ link. If you can pop in and chat with them even better.

You are looking for very high grade stainless with a good thickness of actual material. They should be Tig welding the stainless

I have attached the Longlife link for you http://www.longlife.co.uk/performance/contact.default.aspx They will take emails or calls.

May I suggest you give them a call and then follow up with emails to get the technical aspects in print. Then you can call the rest of the world and of course make your own choice.

Dont be afraid if a woman answers the phone she is pretty switched. If she doesnt know she will get someone who does to call you back and follow up with an email - From my personal experiance.

It is worth the time to call around as you wont be happy with a halfway solution...

Hope it helps and good luck with your choice. Dont be afraid to post your findings as you go. It helps us all as solutions move with technology. :D
