sirleeofroy 0
Hi guys, i own a 92 golf vr6 obd1 and recently having troubles with my engine not firing right so ive decided to get myself a vagcom cable and diagnose it myself but i can find where the plug is in the car?!?! I was told it was that blank plate to the left of my ashtray but ive just looked and there is nothing there, it dont even come out as its part of the ciggerette lighter!! any ideas??cheers
thegoth 5
on early cars it's behind the blanking plates abouve the ash tray. you'll need to lever them off.http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?152075you'll need an adapter for cable if it didn't come with one
sirleeofroy 0
Right thats what i first thought but my car has had some random switches put in there for the alarm that dont work apparently so when i pulled them off there was 2 wires sitting behind but im quite sure they are not the vagcom plugs as there is only 2 wires going into each of the plugs, i'll go have a quick look now jus to make sure im not missing anything... sirleeofroy 0
Sweet, i take it the "free gift" is the adapter for my car then! Also is there a particular version of vagcom i should be using as i have a few versions? plus i got some other random software such as: VAGdashCOM, VAG EEPROM Programmer, VAG tacho software, VAGrevo flash.. is there anything i can do with these?
thegoth 5
maybe from china. a bit specialist for comp fairs which are usually just cases, power supplies and video cards. but still not expensive when you consider how much VW charge just for taking the port cover off and plugging in. H13VYY 0
TheGoth do you have that VAG-COM? is that the VAG-COM that everybody goes on about on here and the one they have? bcuz im sure i heard the VAG-COM kits cost like £200-£300?
thegoth 5
Yep it's the one I went for. Dunno if everyone has exactly the same lead. But I think we all run the same software. Ross-Tech shareware version. which comes with that lead on the CD. Before I got my laptop I used a little code reader which also worked fine but without the finer details available from ross-tech

The lead also comes with windows drivers and shareware Ross-Tech V409-1 No idea if it will work with your other software.P.s. Ross-tech only works on XP and not Vista
sirleeofroy 0
ok ive got vagcom 409 i think its a full version from the little i know, whats the difference between the shareware and full version?
thegoth 5
about $189! and some aspects are crippled* but it's still usable with the help on an online defect code list.*for instance you can only VAG-Scope the first field of each measurement block but logging works on all so no real loss
sirleeofroy 0
ok well i have a crack that saves you £189!!
