sirleeofroy 0
Hi guys i have an early VR6 with the distibuter and this morning took off my inlet manifold so i could get to my spark plugs, on putting it back together ive yet again been stumped by a plug that really should be plugged in somewhere but ive no idea where and also looking at the unit that sends the "spark" to the dizzy, the plug that plugs into that looks kinda bodged but had no problem running before.. thing is the wire i cant find a home for has the same fitment as the one that looks a bit dodgy.... i had a crazy thought that something had been done and it had been changed for some reason but ive got no idea..the wire im holding plugs into the unit that sends the spark to the dizzy, the other......... well i have no idea!! thegoth 5
does it run as is? Have you got anything plugged into the coil other then the HT lead?
sirleeofroy 0
well at the moment its not running due to a dead battery but it was fine before, cant see anything else connected to the coil..... its the plug that i dont know where it goes that twisting my nugget really!! craggsy 91
AUX water pump and a sensor in the cam chain cover
sirleeofroy 0
Really, do you know what colour the wires are meant to be?And where the plug is?
craggsy 91
Aux water pump is near big engine loom. It has all your hoses into it should be a plug on top of it. And the sensor is right next to it. You will need to remove plastics from engine, the ones ht leads sit in
craggsy 91
I cant do pics as im at work but home in an hour so can take a pic of mine to show ya
thegoth 5
AUX water pump and a sensor in the cam chain coverIsn't the AUX pump two pin?On the dizzy model the hall sender is in the dizzy and will be one of them. there should be a three pin socket on the coil between the HT socket and the bulkhead. The plug which fits this has/should have a fat brown wire.
thegoth 5
Here's some pics of mine. I am aware of two types of dizzy so yuor hall sender plug might be more 'female' than mine
thegoth 5
the one with the red tape looks like your coil lead from where it runs to
craggsy 91
I just had a quick look on mine and seen 2 plugs close to each other...cant get oily whilst at work really.Plus mines a coilpack so will be slightly different. Come on Nige you have one sat doing nothing....go and have a look if you can
Ben Seabrook 4
I am aware of two types of dizzy so yuor hall sender plug might be more 'female' than minesorry to hijack but what do you mean by more 'female' ????
thegoth 5
both of sirleeofroy's plugs have recesses into the plug where as my hall sender plug, my first photo, as an extension from the plug. Now use your biology A level to work out the rest. ;-)
Ben Seabrook 4
thanks - back on topic
sirleeofroy 0
Right thats ok on the coil then, just had the car running again but only on 5 cylinders, starting to think one of my injectors are blocked, as for this illusive wire, ive looked where you said but any plug i can see has something plugged into it?!?! thegoth 5
how about at the base of the distributor cap at about 4 o'clock? that's the only other three wire plug I can find in that area.
sirleeofroy 0
ok hold on i'll look now....
sirleeofroy 0
No it seem the wire for the dizzy cap is in place...... the wire comes from the engine loom and has a brown wire, black wire and a blue/white wire if that helps...
thegoth 5
there is a single earth type wire for the dizzy cap. but you should have another 3 pin socket / plug around that area for the hall sender. not the greatest photo but should give you an idea. I started mine with this disconnected and it did idle but probably wouldn't be smooth under load.
sirleeofroy 0
yea nice 1 for that, seems that 1 is fine so who knows what this wire is for, i just hope its not what is stopping my car from running, trying desperately not to take it to a garage as im low on funds tho i will have a vagcom lead soon so hopefully that will give me an insight to the problem (and others lol)
sirleeofroy 0
Haha, how stupid of me.... I now remember my mate sayin when i bought the car that the speed sensor had packed up, now upon reading up on speed sensors most of the info i got was the speed sensors for the abs not the speedo. Turns out this cable i dont have a plug for is for the speedo and the reason there is no plug is cos its snapped off!!
