Right guys, I think I might have a problem with the Golf VR. For a while now, just after starting from cold, the engine his a kind of whine about it, that clears after a mile or so. I kind of feel like it could be a tired oil pump, but not sure as there is no oil pressure gauge to determine low pressure. It almost sounds a bit tappety too, but again after a mile or so it's ok. So, tonight Mrs B tells me that the engine revs dipped a couple of times today again from cold, so I've just been outside to see if it did it for me, but thankfully not. BUT, whilst checking this other issue, I rev'd the engine to around 1500 rpm, and the whole car starts shaking/vibrating, and then try different rpms between idle and 2500rpm, and the engine is no where near as smooth as it was before. What I'm worried about is oil starvation on the main bearings and wondering if I might be looking at an engine rebuild? I had noticed the idle wasn't particularly smooth with the air-con on (800rpm) as opposed to without it on (650rpm) the other day, along with a vibration under hard acceleration, that started me thinking...... :S

Cool, I'll check and clen the MAF. Plugs are only two weeks old, so they should be fine. When I changed the plugs I noticed some small cracks in the HT leads where they clip into the manifold plastic trim, could that cause a misfire like that? I would guess so??
