What mods in what order !?!

Recommended Posts

Following on from my previous thread, finding out what a Schrick Inlet Manifold does for you and the price!!!!....

Now I'm wonder what should I do first ???- biggest Bang for my buck and all that!!!

I have a standard VR6 - only mods so far are to the handling - EBC brakes. This weekend Neuspeed ARBs and 16" alloys are going on.

Last weekend took it to Mikeanics in Congleton to get it on the RR and it came out at 176.6BHP - no suprises there - doing exactly what it says on the tin!

Looking for ideas from the weath of knowledge spread across you all as to what mods I should do to improve the engines performance.

I'm not looking to go to 300BHP, just subtle improvements that are worth my hard earned pennys!!

Mikeanics suggested the first step would be to chip it, quoting £250 + vat including the chip and RR before/after tests.

He thought it would add about 6-8BHP, which doesn't sound like a lot but he pointed out that it massively improves the low/mid range torque, so you get a lot more when driving it than just a few extra BHP on the print out.

Over to you.............

:)

nah, i'd get a schrick is money isn't an issue, then get a remap done to optimise it. no point getting a remap first then having to get it done again after you get a schrick, and chips aren't much cop (remap is matched to your car, chip's are all the same settings and no car is identical). i don't go for loud exhausts, think the vr6 is too refined for that stuff (but then again my vr6 has the nice looking early tailpipes not the twin downswept pee shooter), a little induction noise is nice tho.

I'm getting a Supersprint system fitted this month and asked about a decat, the tuning company who's fitting and supplying it recommended not getting one as it doesn't improve the power in any way and is a hassle for MOT's. Straight through isn't the way forward either. Decent system, quality induction kit, give it a good service with quality spark plugs, etc, and she'll be running sweet as a nut and will be fine enough until you're ready to make bigger upgrades to a Schrick or a charger, etc. Engine wise, VW didn't do much wrong, so there's not much to change. in my opinion anyway.

Yep you cant argue with a supercharger 8)

Prior to this i had a Miltek cat back system and although it didnt make any noticeable difference apart from slightly better low down pull it helps pave the way for further mods.

Dont bother with an induction kit - just drill the airbox on the side furthest away from the engine - i did this on mine and it sounded sweet on the rolling road 8)

Pete.

if your going to chip it go to colins motorsport

in congleton ,i can recomend there chips as i have one in mine.and they will do it for 150+vat well worth it and i think that mikeanics will take it to colins anyway(they did on a mates vr !!)

ps get k/n panel filter and de-cone airbox cheap and well worth it

yeah we all know what we would get if money was no option but a decat and induction kit aint gonna break the bank! what bhp is your standard lookin mk3 :P

lol

not sure what bhp it has as i've never RR'd it. i think its quite healthy tho, seems quicker than my mates standard highline. i've got a few goodies in the suspension area, interior, and engine mounts so it aint standard (neither are the wheels or gill)
