Do you not have a general turbo name for your old unit? Id just try and get it rebuilt and spend the money on getting your wastegate sorted a proper map

Yeah i have, its a t61 aka t04s, t4 style exhaust housing, i'd rebuild it myself, so the companies want to know the serial number to get the correct parts.

I'd need a rebuild kit (seals, thrust bearing etc), plus the main shaft, and possibly an exhaust housing, which doesn't leave alot left of the original unit, i might as well get a new, bigger tubby!

I've got another wastegate coming, which i'l be doing over the next couple of weeks (work depending), so watch this space!

have you had a look at the holset turbos m8. Think there around £450 there was a thread on here about them.

But i looked on the website and it looks like they all come with an internal wastegtae?

  • 3 weeks later...

Been working on my exhaust manifold while i decide what to do about my turbo.

I bought another turbosmart wastegate, exactly the same as my other 1, because it worked out cheaper to buy another new 1, than to sell my 1 and buy a larger 'gate?!

So set about modding the manifold, ended up with something that looked like this

It fits ok, just need to go back to the mk3 servo and m/cylinder as theres just not enough room with the larger r32 servo there.

Just got to weld it up, do the above, fit another new clutch m/cyl! And work out what to do about me tub. Might just rebuild it, run it at billing to see how it goes, if it doesn't like it or goes pop, i'l buy a gt40. :-)

Yeah, will sell it with the m/c, as it only fits on that servo, and i've got the reservior in the workshop, so it'll be the complete unit mate. Should be coming off this weekend, i'l let you know :-)

Um, i chose that model because it was the closest 1 to a gt35. It uses the same compressor and wheel, but its a journal bearing instead of a ball bearing. The exhaust housing is a t4 divided, so i could use the original vr6 headers, make 2 tubes to go to the turbo, and have a split/pulsing turbine, which aids and speeds up the time you come on boost.

I have got an oil cooler, just a mocal kit, and i've mounted it just behind the bumper.

Thanks mate for the info. Its really interesting as I am considering turboing next year. I was going to start the mods this year e.g Mocal Oil Cooler, Samco, Braided Brake Hoses, Uprated Engine Mounts etc....

Could I have your contact details?
