jimredmk2 0 Posted May 6, 2009 Report Share Posted May 6, 2009 hi whats the difference between an obd1 dizzy and coilpack engine? i have a mk2 with a coilpack obd1 and am looking at buying a dizzy engine to replace mine? what will i have to do to run a dizzy engine? can i blank off the dizzy and keep the coilpack? cheers jim. thegoth 5 Posted May 6, 2009 Report Share Posted May 6, 2009 to run it a dizzy engine you will need the dizzy ECU and possible some loom changes as well. I have read of people converting dizzy lumps to coil pack. It's more than simply blanking off the dizzy as you need a cam sensor signal but you'll have all the parts you need on your existing engine. thegoth 5 Posted May 6, 2009 Report Share Posted May 6, 2009 my best guess is that you'll need to swap the upper chain covers over. have a look in the premium members download section under technical documnets there are two guides. one about cleaning camshaft sensor and one about checking upper chain tensioner. these will give you some idea of what is needed.
