spreadz07 0
Driving back from Taunton today and my aircon wasn't working very well. The next thing the whole car filled with steam from just about anywhere it could escape from. Pretty scary at 80 in the middle land of the M5, couldn't see a thing Managed to get onto the hard shoulder after nearly having a caravan through the back of my car as the idiot towing it decided not let me pull over by speeding up in the inside lane. The guy from the breakdown company said he thinks it's the heater matrix. The drivers side carpets are wet and the heater sensor was whining like mad. There was also water under the car and nothing in the expansion bottle. Questions are:Could the guy be right?Could my engine be knackered? as it now starts but won't tick over ( just cuts straight out)Is it a nightmare job to fix?And is it going to be expensive? Thanks for any help guys NigePs. Really sh*t me up LOL

Mark_H 0
Hi,Sounds a little bit like the engine has overheated and blown the heater matrix. Have you topped the water up again. I have a VR that had a head gasket go and it would run but very lumpy and I could not keep any water in it and it smoked really bad. If iy is a head gasket then it's going to be a few quid. spreadz07 0
Thanks guysThe temp was about normal. Only realized something was wrong as the aircon wasn't working. Tried water after an hour and a half when the breakdown guy arrived and it just emptied on the road. Thanks againNige
Mark_H 0
just as a suggestion, trying bypassing the matrix with a pipe (just join the two hoses together) and see what happens then

spreadz07 0
Another question guysThe car will now start and then cut straight out. A friend says it might be a switch that turns the fuel pump off.Any ideas please? Many thanksNige
thegoth 5
sounds like the inbuilt ecu immobiliser. normally to do with the transponder ring around the ignition.but just to be sure can you hear the fuel pump prime itself when you switch the ignition on?
spreadz07 0
Thanks mateSeems like the fuses are saturated as the pump doesn't seem to be starting. Time to have a major dry out session I think. The Haynes manual doesn't seem to say much Think this is going to be an expensive oneThanks for your help guys, if you think anything else would be helpfull I would be most gratefull Nige
