mriley60 0
Hello there, my first post so be gentle. Had my L plate vr6 for six months now (my first one, always been a vauxhall man, boo hiss I hear them say, had a couple of big engined nova's etc). Anyway. Have noticed an occasiona puff of smoke sometimes, sometimes its on overrun, overtimes if I nail it for the first time when its warmed up. Personally I suspect valve stem oil seals as I have had this go on cars in the past, I dont believe its rings as its not smoking all the time. Also tappets are a little rattly on start up (although going to do an oil change tomorrow which should help as the oil is black and well used). Have been quoted around £650 to do the head. Is this reasonable?Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
kie_dub 0
Try cleaning the MAF mate with electrical contact cleaner
mriley60 0
where is that located?
kie_dub 0
if you look where the air filter is, follow the pipe from it and you will see a black plastic plug. remove that and remove the housing aswel and clean it with electrical contact cleaner, its a delicate thin piece of metal/wire. so dont touch it or move it. make sure you let it fully evaporate aswel otherwise you will set the car on fire lol
boostjunkie 0
mines the same, smokes alot on overrun and on start up, it's more likely the guides as well, i looked into having the head done and was quoted £250 for new guides and a skim, the rest of the stuff like gasket and bolts I would source myself,ps I cleaned my maf and it made no differance what so ever, I also removed the cat and changed to a new lambda still smokes on overrun so I would say it's deffo a mechanical problem
