Hairyarse 0
When I turn the steering wheel, there's a scraping noise just behind it. Sounds like something is stuck in the cowling - not taken that off yet but can't see anything. Anyone had this problem before?
spadam 7
yea got same problem think its dirt stuck behind wheel rubbing when you turn it.
Hairyarse 0
Is it easy to get the steering wheel off? Not done one with an air bag before!
thegoth 5
you have to disconnect the battery to guide against the air bag going off in your hand
legvw 0
I agree with the goth, make sure batt is disconected! There are 2 holes on back of steering wheel, think they are allen headed blots, just un-do an pop air bag off. The un-do the big nut in the middle of the wheel
Hairyarse 0
Cheers fellas. Dont want the airbag going off, If nothing else think I'd crap myself with the shock! Remember at motor show years back when airbags first came out they had a demo and even when you stood and watched and knew the bag was coming out, you couldn't help but jump! Hairyarse 0
...if it helps anyone....?Sorted mine this evening;Took wheel off (disconnected battery but for some reason still worried air bag would go off in my face! )Not much dirt/shavings of plastic but think main culprit of the noise is the brass horn contact sticking out I greased this after giving everything a wipe down, then greased my ring (pardon the expression!) on the back of the steering wheelNot been for a drive yet but turning wheel it's much better, not 100% - think would have to replace that brass contact as it's worn flat. Oh and air bag didn't go off which is a relief
Rikki 2
I did mine the other day....just sprayed isopropyl alcohol inbetween the wheel and ring.....using a wd40 straw thing....didnt even have to remove the wheel. Noise is completely gone!!! think that brass ring is supposed to be flat mate!
Hairyarse 0
Yeah, looked like it's popped up - think may buy a new one if noise not totally gone
