HIGHLINE VR6 1
i own a 98 vr6 golf with 120k on it with cams and remap. when giving it some beans and change from 1st to 2nd it now and again crunches and somtimes 2nd to 3rd. but this only happens occasionally. i have recently put a sach repset clutch in and also a short shifter. is there any way of sorting this out? dont want it to happen half way up the strip! could be down to a slow clutch? or to quick a gear change? and how could i resolve this?any help is gratfully appreiated, ian
CALICO 130
maybe the gear-linkage needs altering slightly
spindat45 0
It sounds more like the syncromesh in the gearbox. Have a play with the adjustment on the gear linkage but generally if you can selct the gears without a problem under normal acceleration but it crunches at high revs/speed then I'd say it's the box. My old box did this and I believe it's quite common on 02A gearboxes. It is possible to have the box reconditioned by somone who knows what they're doing to resolve this.Kevin

Bobtrude 0
you can also change gearboxoil. that is suposed to work slightly.
DanH 1
do try linkege 1st but sounds like syncros to me, catch it before it ruins dog teeth and u need new gear/hub. also could be pinion bearing on way out - the extra play in the bearing messes wit the selection.damn i need a press at home!!!! i live in lancs and if i had a press in my garage i woulda offered for very good price. try this place http://www.motwarrington.co.uk/station_page.asp?session_ID=0&pid=364 its were i work, have no idea on price..... stockers 1
i just had the gear linkage adjusted on 2nd gear cos it was a bit crunchy and its smooth as silk now, i know 3rd gear synchro is prone to wear but if its occasional it sounds like an adjustment is all thats needed.
